Hey everybody..

I'm totally new to DGN/the scene in general. I went to city club for a few minutes saturday night for the first time and I can't wait to head back there..... Someone mentioned that it's psychotically cheap to get hotel rooms at the Leland.... Next time I go to CC I'd like to do things right and get a room and party all night. Can anyone give me an idea of the sketchiness factor there? Good move? Bad move? Roaches? Baseheads? Pillow mints?

I think roaches would be the LEAST of your problems....isn't there like dried blood in some of the rooms??....Pillow mints...now thats funny...no...no pillow mints....I'm be shocked if you got a PILLOW...

Rooms are around $40/night & you can get this special rate if you tell them you are going to City Club for the night.

From what I hear, it is fairly bare-bones, no mints on pillows, no special amenities. The one time I was in one of those rooms, there was a room full of all kinds of broken up building garbage down the hall (door was open & we went exploring). :)

If you want to see a typical room, I would ask to take a tour of a room or two so you can see it for yourself. The worst they could say is no. :)

40 bucks a night, you say? Dayummn! I heard something like $60. I'm almost scared if it's $40 a night :p As long as it's safe-ish and not completely disgusting, that sounds a little too good to pass up. I've seen some SHITTY reviews of it on hotel sites online, but then again, people that are reviewing it might not know what to expect from the D. Ah well, I guess it can't hurt to try...... I think I'll give it a go the weekend after this one, and hopefully I can get to know some of you guys in the meantime!

hahaha...well yeah, not committing to ANYTHING, but i'm gonna go check out exactly how crack-ridden it is. it would be more of a home-base for pregame drinking and such then it would for kicking back and watching HBO (haha, assuming they even have tvs). worst case scenario, at least the club is open late enough to sober up some. i'm just not hip to the drinking and driving idea and i want to have a kickass night.

I've stayed there twice and I really don't see what everyone is complaining about. I mean, it's not the cleanest hotel I've stayed in, but the basic necessities worked. I would definatly take the comforter off the bed before you sit or lay down. If all you're looking for is a place to crash for a few hours before and after than I think it'd be fine.

Like George Carlin would say"Take a F$#@ing Chance"!I myself would rather sleep in my vehicle.

I'm planning to stay there myself at some point. If the bed looks really gross I can just bring a sleeping bag in from my trunk.

I worked in that building for too many years to ever lay my head ANYWHERE in there....

...and I was at one point prior to working there a homeless drug addict that lived under a porch in Detroit.

I've stayed a few times. It is NOT that bad! I brought my own pillow and sleeping bag and just bunked down on the bed on top of the covers. No big. The room was not filthy, not clean either, but the shower worked, and there were no obvious issues or smells. Use sense, bring your own blankets, lock your doors... you know..l don't be an idiot. It's a way better plan than driving drunk.

But why?

I haven't seen it but I don't see how it could possibly be all as bad as everyone else is making it out to be. Hell, if it's that bad they probably wouldn't get mad at you for being classless. Which could be fun after City Club... if I ever have a bf in this city I might have to stay there after club! hahaha

Seconded. Detroit's own Chelsea Hotel! I've stayed there many many times and never had any problems. No, it's not a 5 star hotel and hauling your gear from the parking lot is a pain in the ass... but come on, you can get a kitchenette suite for $80 (ask for the City Club discount). Yeah, the clientele is not exactly top shelf... but no one has EVER bothered me there, and I love the fact that you don't get funny looks for wearing full goth/fetish/punk/whatever regalia. I have had far fewer problems with the SSI/emergency housing residents at the Leland than I have with drunken conventioneers at "nice" hotels. Definitely feel a lot safer there than at any of the Jefferson Ave. motels, where I've witnessed some very scary goings-on. Okay, it's maybe not the cleanest place around... but most non-germophobes should be fine, if you're really worried about it bring a sleeping bag.

Botttom line: It is DEFINITELY better than driving drunk/sleepy! Keep your wits about you, don't look like a mark, and bring a sleeping bag if you're really worried about cleanliness... you'll be fine.
