Emily Darke Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Leave if you like it.... this will get offensive. If you read it and get offended.... shove off lol. I warned you. I'd like to discuss a disgusting gothic trend..... anime. Why the fuck do so many goths love anime, and japanese culture? Its childish.... its cartoonish. I hate anime with an enormous passion. I'll take my dracula and werewolves, thank you. If I'm going to fit with a stereotype I sure as hell don't want to get sucked into the most retarted of them all. I go for a european vampyric look. I enjoy expensive restaurants, operas, plays.... and on occasion I'll admit I indulge in clubbing. But for the most part, aside from my blunt tongue and language, I aim to be a classy, classical example of what goth is. The animaniacs dress similar to me though, in the sense that they're 'goth' and I'm 'goth', so people assume we're into the same things, and it makes ME look like a 12 year old hellsing fan just as they are. god FUCK ANIME! Fuck Japan. I appreciate the cuisine and finer points of the culture, but the cartoon idiocy must end. Too.... much.... cute. Too much. It makes my blood boil and my nails sharpen, right on their own. Anybody else wanna bash anime? I hate it. I hate it hate it hate it. Theres some decent video games, but aside from that fuck watching cartoon versions of things that real people can portray so much better. Annoyingly Numbwitted Idiocy Mortifies Emily I even go out of my way to craft acronyms about how much it pisses me off. DON'T DEFEND ANIME HERE. DON'T DO IT. I've heard defences before. I don't care to hear them again. Leave. Take your big eyed 12 year old getting raped by a man watching anime loving ASS on out of HERRR! WHO ELSE WANTS TO RANT? SPREAD THE ANGER! lol or rant about anything. That's my rant. Fuck anime.
Az_ Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Your loss dude. Why anyone would waste time focusing on something they hate is beyond me. Whatever... more anime for me.
Riku Namako Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 retarted XD I'm sorry, I couldn't help but die laughing when I saw that
Goth Brooks Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 I don't like anime. I don't understand most people's obsession with the japanese culture, it's hard to find a more xenophobic one on the planet.
n0Mad Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 *shrug* If I were goth, I'd probably hate anime too. Good thing I'm not goth. I never understood the whole vampire thing. Sure, I loved the game but that's because it was an rpg primarily with kick ass storytelling potential and not because it was about vampires. Never read Ann Rice and never care too. Werewolves, I didn't even like the rpg. Poe is okay. Very talented writer but nothing I can really get into. And I get squeamish at the sight of blood. Sometimes I even faint. Not going to rant about it though, I just never understood it all or got into it. Yeah, good thing I'm not goth.

Its probably a good thing that there is enough opinions to go around in the world for everyone to get their own opinion. Can you imagine the horror if everyone had to like the same things?
Scales Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 I'd like to discuss a disgusting gothic trend..... anime. It's not necessarily a facet of the gothic subculture. For instance, I go into Frickers in all black, surrounded by televisions playing sports and some preppy people, but my love for the chicken is greater. So the real question is.. ..did Sanoske ever pay his tab at the Akabeko? Just kidding. And I get squeamish at the sight of blood. Weird, for me I can watch anything gory real or fake, with tons of blood.. and needles are what bother the hell out of me. Anime porn. Discuss That might have been how Sanoske got out of paying his tab...
ashlei Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 While I agree about anime to a certain extent, I think you love yourself too much.
Nightgaunt Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 I would agree that about 99% of Japanese animation is poorly-executed, redundant, unoriginal, sexist trash. However, there is that golden 1% (which includes the work of Miyazaki, Anno, Tsurumaki, and a couple others) that keeps me from making over-generalizations about an entire artistic medium. +1
know_buddy_kares Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 For one i think you love yourself waaaay too much to the point where you lost touch with reality about who you really are.. you're american.. yes you can enjoy opera but i really find it sad when people try to claim to like something "european" in order to make themselves sound classier.. fuck that noise. Europeans can be just as ignorant, closed minded, and pathetic as americans can be. Now with that said, on to the Anime... I can't agree or disagree with you as to how it's supposedly a "goth trend" as i see it as a trend of it's own. For those that like cartoons (such as I) it is usually.. better drawn with better story lines than regular american cartoons... i'll take fairly odd parents or the grim adventures of billy and mandy for example.. slightly entertaining yes.. but jesus fucking christ did they hire 5 year olds to draw this shit?!?! (namely draw) talk about a total lack of effort in quality.. and the plot only goes long enough for one episode at a time... now i'm not defending anime here either, though the plotline spans across all episodes, each one ending at a cliff hanger keeping you waiting to see what can happen... I will say this.. it takes about 10 motherfucking episodes for a character to even blink in a hard knox staredown contest with their rival.. dragon ball z for prime example... 90% of the episodes where nothing but shots of each character making angry faces at eachother before something insignificant happens. I could say it's all crap, but compared to the rest of the crap they show on tv anyways, it would only be pointing out a small cluster of turds in an already overflowing sea of shit. Perhaps this is why I hardly ever watch tv or even use it for anything else other than movies or video games.. if even that.
know_buddy_kares Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Anime porn. Discuss Borat say "Great Success!!!" not
DarkChylde Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Although im not offended, but I think your taking this way to far. Well, its not like im obsessed with anime and watch it 24/7 like most does. Of course I can agree with the cute stuff though, the cute crap does need to go. I only watch the more serious and well-drawn anime stuff. Yes, there are alot thats crap, but not all of of it in my opinion. But if you dont like none of it period, thats fine. But must you hate the country? Im more attracted to the european style as well but if it wasnt for japan we wouldnt be having all the cool video games here these days. Ya can hate japan all you want, but just remember of who makes your video games. Like what KBK said, you do seem obsessed with yourself and anime is not a goth trend. Get your education right. We all have certain shows, cartoons that we like or dislike. thats how life is and it'll always be like that, so get use to it.
DarkChylde Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Anime porn. Discuss Lol so, should we warn her that the demonic tenticles might take advantage?
Shade Everdark Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 I think it important to clarify that a love of anime is not a love of Japanese culture as a whole. There are as many reasons to be interested in Japan as there are reasons to be interested in Europe. Architecture, language, history, culture, literature, poetry, art, theatre--all of which they have made uniquely their own. To hate Japan because you find nothing likable in anime is a sad generalization, and I hope you can see your way past that. As for me, I'll keep my interest in samurai and Japanese clothing and language well dusted on the shelf next to the knight and medieval clothing, to say nothing of the comparable and contrasting ideas of love, beauty, art, and decorum.
MissKitty Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 For one i think you love yourself waaaay too much to the point where you lost touch with reality about who you really are.. you're american.. yes you can enjoy opera but i really find it sad when people try to claim to like something "european" in order to make themselves sound classier.. fuck that noise. Europeans can be just as ignorant, closed minded, and pathetic as americans can be. yeah! Which is why i usually say, when people ask me, that I'm American with Irish and Hungarian heritage. Or, I let them know that I'm a freakin gypsy, because both sides were, It's fun, my family is eclectic.
TitsMcGee Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 I think this is the first time I've ever heard someone say that anime is goth, and it makes me laugh. My older brother is the biggest anime freak I know and the boy is so not even close to being goth. Thanks for the good laugh though, the visual of my brother all gothed out is great lol.
Riku Namako Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 dragon ball z for prime example... 90% of the episodes where nothing but shots of each character making angry faces at eachother before something insignificant happens. roflmmfao XD actually, they power up for 10 episodes straight, do a flashback episode, 5 filler episodes, then they fight for 2 seconds before showing another character spectating the fight who critiques it (sp) and basically does a flashback of his own until the fight is over. I saw one too many "cartoons" that followed this same formula. action packed or not, animated shows are notorious for this kinda thing: sindication. love it or hate it (I hate it personally) I can't stand when show with a good storyline doesn't progress, anime or not. filler episodes piss me off, and there are loads of animes with that sorta thing. however, unlike american cartoons, anime does eventually progress, and in the end, it actually gives you a finale' in some sorta way. prime example=Samurai Jack that show sucked so much cock, it was choking on pubic hair at the end of the second episode. it was so gay, it was shitting condoms. it had the premise of a decent story that could've made for a good show, but it went the way of practically every none anime animated feature, sindication. basically my personal feelings on the subject is, if you're going to have a show, animated or not, if its got a good story and its progressive, I'll watch it. doesn't matter if its anime, or if its american. you like what you like. the person who started this topic aparently doesn't see things this way, but whatever, we all got our own opinions. if you stuck around long enough to read this post, then you can kinda see what mine is.

What he said. My interest in Japanese culture predates my discovery of anime by about 2 decades, not that this really means anything in the grand scheme of things. Why are you so concerned with what other people like? Why would you even waste energy obsessing about a whole genre of entertainment that you don't care for? And that whole "gothier than thou" outlook is not going to win much sympathy here. A major reason I love DGN is that almost everyone here is more concerned with being the fascinating individuals they are, than meeting some arbitrary standard of "true goth-hood". The diversity of opinions, interests, and personal styles here enriches me as a person, even if I don't agree with or care for some of them. After all, you learn NOTHING by associating only with people who share your likes & dislikes right down the line. and yeah, that "retarted" bit was pretty damn funny.
Joey Deadcat Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Don't understand the fascination with anime myself - just not into it(hell, I'm not even into video games,RPGs,online gaming,or sci-fi for that matter). But if that's what the kids are into let 'em be. Don't hate on an entire nation for it, though. Guitar Wolf and Mad Masato come from Japan!
Raev Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Hehe, a classy pothead band groupie? I've heard it all now. As for the topic on hand - I don't care for Anime myself. I did when I was much younger but some time shortly after hitting puberty I lost interest in it. Of course, it was around that time that I lost interest in television all together. Only things I watch are on the History Channel, Discovery or Comedy Central's non-animated shows.
Raev Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Ummmm.... ^ *looks confused at your current vampire hunter D avatar* ^ It looks cooler than I do.
Guest Megalicious Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 I like some anime, though I do not take it to an extreme. I like what I like. yes you can enjoy opera but i really find it sad when people try to claim to like something "european" in order to make themselves sound classier.. fuck that noise. Some of use do listen to opera because we happen to believe ts fucking beautiful . Give a listen to any of the three Wagner ring cycles and you will know why.
