Most of us are about two or three paychecks away from having to live in a tent..

Count your blessings, my friends.

its happening like wildfire. and it is a trickle effect. imagine how fast this whould go if we didnt have the war thats offering a shit load of people jobs in manufacturing and the like...

consumerism fails when it slows down to much. and since where not exporting nearly as much as we should, we cant offer up for other countries to consume our shit other then our food base

and technology has crippled many whould be jobs. replacing the human more and more

when i lived in glendale arizona in the 80's...there was a totally ILLEGAL 'tent' city for the illegals. most of which were mexican orange pickers

it was hidden behind a trailer park and was HUGE i stumbled upon it one day after making a wrong turn

mostly self made shacks of wood...i dont know what they did with their waste but it didnt stink

now it is haapening to every race, and anyone can end up this way if they get sick and dont have decent medical benefits

i know peeps who get better ssi benefits for being crazy...than some who are truely physicaaly handicapped in a bad way

i predict one day there will be upper and lower class....no middle...possibly in my lifetime, here in the good ol usa

Getting a tent, other tools and some good hands on skills would probably be a very good idea if things keep getting worse...

also a sleeping bag thats rated for negative degree weather... thats pretty much a must have.

theres a shit load of survival guides online. doomer forums(yes they exsist) nomadic styled cultures exsist no matter what the economy is, they can offer the best advice if you happen to know anyone who has lived with out a home. sadly with more land being private and few being public. these culture have gone down a bunch. but there still around.

homeless people are often sterotyped badly bye the intercity homeless types who stay in the bounds of a downtown area. but thats only one facet, and some CHOOSE the lifestyle not out of financial burden but for there excitement of never beeing in one place, and a better connection with the earth

Having basic survival gear (or not so basic) is always a good idea. Unfortunately for most of us its a case of do as I say not as I do.

To the larger point:

Short term there are problems. On a longer timescale the world in general and America are doing fine from the only real way to draw such lines, that is from a retaliative perspective, rather than an anecdotal one. Just depends on were you start the time line. We've grown so soft , what we call a recession is a paradise from the viewpoint of other parts of the world and other times in history.

Things like this make me VERY grateful that I know how to live in the woods for a long time pretty comfortably.

BOTHERS ME. I know one girl who gets a $600 check for SSI when there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH HER (she's convinced her therapist there is...but therapists don't need convincing they'll tell you something's wrong no matter WHAT...their pay depends on it).

Also, the fact that they give SSI to people just for being obese? Shouldn't it be the opposite? I don't understand how they even classify obese as a "disease" when we were growing up it was called being lazy. I understand that there's a VERY very VERY miniscule amount of obese people where they are basically, genetically fucked and have some crazy rare condition, but that's a SMALL amount. We shouldn't have to foot the bill for all the other ones that are basically irresponsible and refuse to take care of themselves. As harsh as it sounds, it's the truth, and sometimes it hurts. Anyone can be healthy, it's QUITE easy once you stop making excuses.

Same with the spending habits of Americans, which basically caused this drop in the economy. If we weren't so needy and selfish we would NOT be in this predicament. We made our bed and now we get to lie in it, and quite honestly, that's fine by me. Serves us all right for being irresponsible and buying everything on credit and pulling the equity out of our homes to pay for it.

the welfare state helped a lot with this. people cant learn a lesson when there brother does jack shit and gets all this free goverment money and benefits. and now companies are getting bailed out for bad choices only for how important they are to the us economy. usa cant afford this. and seems to feel its ok to bring the dollar down for a quick fix to a bad ideology. to bad ron paul didnt make it to the republican ticket. he seems to be the one who saw this coming and warned congress a long time ago. and they didnt listen to him.

TRUTH!

I don't think we should bail anybody out of shit. The only welfare I believe people should EVER receive unless severely disabled (NOT faking it like all of the people I know on SSI except maybe one) is food stamps. Other than that? Let them sink. You can't learn your lesson unless someone lets you...and our government DOESN'T allow that. We bail everyone out. It's disgusting.

90% of the reason I'm republican, because liberals tend to be for welfare, free health insurance, etc all the time. I'm a survival of the fittest person, it's natural selection at its best.

THEN...at some point after all of the irresponsible people keep being saved by the government and have tons of kids for the welfare...the movie Idiocracy happens.

It's coming, people, faster than you think. I've noticed in my own personal experience almost everyone I know in even the past five years has gotten lazier, don't go outside anymore, don't read (there's tv...why would you?), don't even have anything past what I deem a 6th grade education (but is now 12th grade in America), basically sit in their houses and shovel Cheezy Poofs into their faces while watching mind-numbing counter-productive reality shows. Why? The govt lets them get away with it...and other people always say, "well...it's none of MY business". Wake up America! IT IS YOUR BUSINESS. That's why outside of DGN I am as blunt, truthful, and harsh and humanly possible...it's the only way people really learn.

If I'm not on this messageboard, don't ask me a question unless you want an HONEST answer that you most likely can't handle, due to the fact that 9 out of 10 Americans can't handle the truth and can't handle blame or being wrong.

Actually, Boshy was talking about how she wants to buy a farm and have a Jonestown style DGN commune where we DON'T end up drinking the Kool-Aid.

I think she was kidding...but I think that would be badass, imo. We'd have chickens! I would name mine Percy, for the record. And nobody would eat him!
