Msterbeau Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Curious about what browser software others are using, what add-ons, extensions, toolbars, etc. Also, what are your habits? Lots of windows or tabs open? A zillion tool bars? Small screen limitations? Security measures? Etc. etc... I use Firefox 3, with only a few extensions. My mostest favorite is Foxmarks, a bookmark sync tool. On every computer I use regularly, I have it installed and my bookmarks are the same everywhere. I use the All-in-one sidebar which gives me History, Bookmarks, Downloads, etc in one collapsible sidebar. Another is AdBlock Plus, and on my home system I have a webdev toolbar. I've had other stuff like Yoono installed in the past but sometimes I turn them off so they aren't using up resources. On PC's I run NoScript. I generally try to minimize the visiblity and number of toolbars and other clutter even though I'm usually on a big monitor (Home = 24" and work =30") because I like to have maximum amount of screen for the browser window. I also despise visual clutter. Most of the time I've got 4-5 tabs open with a couple dedicated to webmail (Away from home only) while the others I use to either surf or get info for something I'm working on in another tab. Since I'm on a Mac, spyware and a number of other exploits are not worries for me. I DO keep a careful eye on spam and possible phishing exploits as well as other malicious sites that might use my info for nafarious purposes. I use an email account for signing onto sites that I think are likely to sell my email address or otherwise not respect my privacy and info. I think that's a good start for me...
Enishi Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 My routine: 1. Wake up. Move my laptop onto my bed. "Ok, I just wanna check a couple sites, I'll only be on for thirty minutes or so..." 2. Find a neat website. "Oh, this is fascinating, I'll spend just a bit more time on this one..." 3. Six hours later. Multiple pages and toolbars open. Finally manage to tear self away from the internet, taking a shower and eating breakfast in the middle of the afternoon. Feel extremely sheepish.

I've never done that before...
Msterbeau Posted September 22, 2008 Author Posted September 22, 2008 I should also mention that I use the "Nightlaunch" theme for Firefox. And damn... I need to go look through add-ons. I did a cursory glance and noticed some stuff I might like to run. Damn their are too many of them!!!

Plus my laptop screen is open too. LOL!! I like one big one versus two smaller ones. I can have multiple windows open and not worry to much about overlap. I do design... It's nice to not have to zoom too much all the time to see detail - It's already a decent size.

Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 I use IE with Ispell, AVG Surfsafe, Flash, Shockwave, Silverlight, Quicktime and Java as my only add-ins. No tool bars or other clutter that eat up system resources with little to no return.
