Head Wreck Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 i'm attending a LRP set in post apoc times soon. so ive been scetching and come up with a design. basicly i'm stuck at this point. i'm after matt rubber almost like car inner tube rubber without the smell and curvature (makes my life sewing each patch easier) i'm also after glossy stretchy rubber for one of the sleves that must give flexability when skin tight on my arm. wnyone got any hints on how or where to look?
Brenda Starrr Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 I wish I had the answer for that one, HW. I hope someone will know.
Fierce Critter Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 I have a few yards of this fabric I picked up that has a patent-like finish on one side, and it's basically applied to a stretch fabric on the other side. It also came in red & yellow. It came from a large fabric store in Detroit that carries unusual, bulk fabrics. So try your more unique/larger/wholesale fabric distributers. Also try upholstery shops. They also make vinyl that's meant for things like recovering car dashboards that's made the same way - a polyester or similar knit fabric with a vinyl coating on one side. Comes in a myriad of colors, as well as stamped patterns like cowhide, etc. It's flexible, sewable (with a leather needle) and shouldn't be too difficult to find. Check out places that cater to car detailing, call shops that do overhauls of car interiors, and even check out places that deal with outdoor furniture and stuff like that (we had a few rolls of that stuff hanging around and used to to recover patio furniture).
