pomba gira Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 OK, we were discussing alternative menstrual products in a thread I can't find, and the Diva Cup was mentioned. I don't think anyone had actually tried it tho. Well, I finally forked over the $22 (on eBay, shipping included) and got one. It arrived in the nick of time for a test run, and I can honestly say this gadget is the best fuckin' thing since sliced bread. MUCH better than the Instead. Two major probs with the Instead... it tends to slide out of place and leak, especially when I'm asleep; and the large-diameter semi-rigid rim causes me some cramping & general discomfort, especially with a full bladder. Neither is an issue with the Diva Cup... NO leakage whatsoever during 3 heavy flow days. 100 miles on the bike yesterday, no worries. Full day at work today, still no worries. Wouldn't trust the Instead, or my second choice, silk sponges, for either. Insertion is a bit tricky but I got the hang of it pretty quickly. Hardest part is that you have to turn it after getting it in to make sure it's open and positioned correctly... can be a little hard to get the necessary two-finger grip on the damp silicone. But I'm quickly getting that part down, too. Removing it is way less messy than Instead, too... if you do it right, it doesn't spill. You're supposed to wash it before re-inserting, which could be a hassle in public restrooms with stalls. But honestly, since you can leave it in for 12 hours, there will probably be very few times when you'd need to deal with it away from home. Auntie Hille's highest endorsement on this thing!
Guest greyhalo Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I'm just glad I don't have to worry about that sort of thing...
Nienna Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 My ex room mates both used this and love it. I never could get the guts up to try it. LOL
Rayne Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I have one ... I FREAKING LOVE IT. Seriously, (tmi) but I bleed wayyyy too much and it helps me with that. Other things I have to change every 10 - 15 minutes (NO JOKE!) this allows me at least 30 - 45 minutes, sometimes even as long as an hour. I had the gum rubber version for years. I got that in 2001, but I couldn't use it for more than a couple of days before the gum rubber would start bothering me. I haven't had that issue with the silicone at all. I can use it as often as I need to without any problems.
