so fox news was on at the end of the election and their poster boy fox shepheard is talking with ralp nader about the comment he said. nader:"now lets see if obama is going to be the next uncle sam, or the next uncle tom".

I gotta give shep some credit, he looked at nater an was like "What the fuc bro!? an uncle tom? what a poor choice of words at the end of a cerear."

nader called shep a bully and said on the in a nationwide forum at the end of the election obama was not uncle sam but uncle tom. he was all bitter. the people on fox were all stuned and defensive of obama. I was shocked they had his back against nader and deffended him.

(off topic )(my uncle keeps telling all the black dudes at work he's tired of the man holding him down, it's pretty funny usually)

Nader was not making a racist comment. Read Uncle Tom's Cabin and you'll understand what he was talking about.

Perhaps not. But it's been used as a racist comment, so perhaps he could have found a less controversial way of saying the same thing.

...perhaps people should read the book that he was getting the usage form from...then they will look less ignorant...as you & I both know...they haz CliffNotes... ;)

(edit to add)

They EVEN haz a wiki on this subject...I show you...

This article is about the racial term. For the P.G. Wodehouse character, see Tom Travers.

Uncle Tom is a pejorative for a black person who is perceived by others as behaving in a subservient manner to White American authority figures, or as seeking ingratiation with them by way of unnecessary accommodation. The term Uncle Tom comes from the title character of Harriet Beecher Stowe's novel Uncle Tom's Cabin, although there is debate over whether the character himself is deserving of the pejorative attributed to him. Stowe never meant Uncle Tom to be a degrading character, but the term as a pejorative has developed based on how later versions of the character, stripped of his strength, were depicted on stage.[1]

It is commonly used to describe black people whose political views or allegiances are considered by their critics as detrimental to blacks as a group.

It EVEN HAS the direct quote...

On November 4, 2008, in an interview with Houston radio station KTRH, Ralph Nader challenged Barack Obama by saying, "He is our first African American president; or he will be. And we wish him well. But his choice, basically, is whether he’s going to be Uncle Sam for the people of this country, or Uncle Tom for the giant corporations who are running America into the ground."

So you see...it is NOT a racial slur...it simply denotes that one is a "race traitor"...

I see Nader as a BRUTALLY HONEST chap...sometimes the truth of a situation is painful..

...in the quote above...he clearly states an either/or situation...
