There's always your average douchebag tourist or three, but overwhelmed is wayyyyy too strong a word. The pkace really hasn't changed much since I started going in the late 90s.

Go on a Friday night if you'd rather deal with less "tourists" and less people in general. I've been going there for years, and I have no problem with the current crowd. As long as people are friendly and seem to be enjoying themselves, who cares who goes?

It's really not that bad, besides, what a perfect time to finally turn the tables and make THEM feel weird, uncomfortable, and unwanted, right?

I actually go OUT of my way to harass them and make them feel shitty. "Eye for an eye" is the only part of the Old Testament I tend to use, and only in cases like wiggers/preps.
