Onyx Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 No matter how many times I give it up I keep coming back to coffee. I really need to quit it since it tears my tummy up and makes me headachy. argh. I have a lot of willpower for other things - gave up a lot of sugar in my diet even though I adore sweet things. I just can't seem to do away with coffee for long. Tried to switch to green tea but it doesn't seem to have enough kick to jump start me for work. It's a vicious cycle. Can't sleep from drinking too much coffee and then the next day I'm so sleepy can't wake up when working so I reach for the coffee again. Guess I don't *want* to quit quite enough yet.
Brenda Starrr Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 I was a 7-cup-a-day coffee drinker about 6 years ago. Then, I got deathly ill. I can't even describe what it did to me! I cut back to one cup a day, and not even every day. I feel much better, but am not ready or willing to quit cold turkey. I did buy a can of Maxwell House Half Caff (or something of that nature), so I'm making the effort! It's so hard, to quit, though. I feel your pain.
Onyx Posted May 16, 2005 Author Posted May 16, 2005 I can understand how that much could make you ill. My body doesn't deal with it well. Funny thing is, this is a fairly new habit for me so it shouldn't be *this* hard to quit! I had never been a coffee drinker. If I wanted caffeine I'd drink a classic coke, but then I met some friends in Toronto about 3 years ago. I was having so much fun, clubbing and going to plays and we had breakfast the next morning at Second Cup. I'd had about 2 hours of sleep the whole time and the coffee there smelled so good. Best cup of coffee I've ever had. MMMM, just thinking about it makes me want to go back to Toronto. That got me trying different types of coffee nad I found a few I liked and I've been drinking it most every day since then. Evil, I tell ya! heh heh
Brenda Starrr Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 My body isn't dealing with it well now, which is why I bought the half caff. Wayne's going to bitch when he sees the can....
SomeDanGuy Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 Sounds like I'm glad I hate the taste of coffee. Bleh! (blasphemy, I know) Good luck conquering your substance addictions you two. Don't make us have an intervention!
Head Wreck Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 which is why everyone should drink tea. its far more dignified... along with long skirts and pocket watches
Onyx Posted May 16, 2005 Author Posted May 16, 2005 I'm truly trying to switch to tea A world of tea, long skirts and pocket watches. Sounds heavenly.
Head Wreck Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 dont forget. fine porceline tea sets on propper tea tables. ever wondered why coffee houses in the 18th and 19th century were seen as bad as opium dens?
Daevion Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 Theres a bunch of people at my work that basically drink coffee all day long, I have no idea how much. I think its the typical office coffee that tastes like crap but I don't drink it cause I make my own and only drink a couple of cups in the morning to wake up. Caffiene is a funny drug, some people have to be carefull not to overdose on it because its been known to cause panic attacks in certain people.
Homicidalheathen Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 Coffee kills. Just say no to the bean! No but seriously. I have a condition and it almost killed me once. It can lead to ulcers and colitis. Please quit. We care about you. My sister was using it for her migraines and it actually makes them worse you get dependant. You have to go through the withdrawl I use Kava Kava now but only twice a month in journey space or at a party.
Paper Hearts Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 Headwreck: 'which is why everyone should drink tea. its far more dignified... along with long skirts and pocket watches " Way to go! I'm a tea man myself, actually.

Brenda Starrr Posted May 22, 2005 Posted May 22, 2005 I just started drinking this Half Caff stuff. Now, I've gone from one to two cups. Where's the logic?

Guest MsMaldoror Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Coffee is a wonderful mental laxative. It relieves brain cramps and keeps you awake. I wouldn't have gotten through grad school w/out coffee. One cup a day will not kill you. Everyone would be more productive in the morning if they drank coffee. :cheerful

Right now I have horrendous heartburn but I've only had one cup and nothing to eat so far today. I really have to find a way to quit.
DracoWrath Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 I love my coffee! I sing and dance about it! I would say that its the only drug I enjoy any more seeing how I gave up all the good stuff..... Half caff would make me cry Brenda, but atleast you have something close ...hey I know I'll add No-dose to mine to make up for yours...
Head Wreck Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 used to have 1 c up in the morning. but i found multi-vit fruit juices do the same job and half caffine is sacralidge
