Steven Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 All the gory details??? man, first I need some black coffee (it's 8:30 in the morning).... I'm from LA - just moved here to Detroit a few months ago. Got tired of the grind, the cost, and the superficiality of Los Angeles so my wife and I just up and sold the house and split. Now I live in a wee little town called Garden City, which I dig very much. I write a weekly column (Stranger in A Strange Land) for The Detroit Buzz - an online E-Zine, where I just sort of try to sort out my place among things. I'm 38, of Latin Descent, been married almost 19 years and we are still feircly in love and laugh togethor everyday.....you cant buy that for any price nowadays but you do have to work very hard to maintain it. I grew up in the streets, lived the life on Hollywood Blvd., watched too many tragic tales and got really sick of my self-loathing and self absorption, so I retired from the Sex and Dope world and with the exception of a few beers now and then, or a good snort of scotch, I pretty much live clean and enjoy having my mind back. I'm currenlty trying to put togethor a rock band that is equall parts The Cult, Zepplin, Sisters of Mercy, Rage against the machine and The Cure if you can beleive that (I'm a singer). I dont consider myself "Goth" - seems sort of silly to consider myself as anything other than just me, but I have a strong affinity for the sub-culture, love the music and expression and hate the way Goths get slagged by people who fear what they dont understand or simply dont tell the truth about themselves. I see a certain beauty in the seperation from the mainstream and the loathing of the social norms we accept nowadays, but I'm also a big beleiver in understanding your identity and calling and changing your world. I'm a beleiving and practicing Christian: but I dont speak christianeze or attempt to belong to any click and have often been called on the carpet for the friends I have, the clubs I go to, the songs I've written, or my criticism of spiritual leadership who do not lead by example or are charlatans altogethor. But I sleep good, because I beleive in my purpose is true and that true christianity is rebellion against many things, including (quite often) the church of dead mens bones. By the way I think that most critics of christendom (of which I myself admittedly sometimes am) miss the spirit of the faith, and do not understand the relational importance of the identity and what that means - and that you canot accquire those things simply by reading some research material...including the bible. That would be like me saying I know all about the Goth culture because I have three albums by The Cure and I was really depressed yesterday. I work as a K9 Bomb Detection specialist in downtown detroit: I'm not a cop, I just have a dog that sniffs for bombs and to be honest I really really hope he never finds one. I love white castle - but it dont love me. I once gave my kidney to a girl my wife went to school with, because she was dying and nobody would help her and it made no sense to me to watch her die and wait for "someone else" to do something, because "somone" often translates into "no one" in reality. I'm a closet writer who is trying very hard to get out of the closet and complete a couple of different book ideas that I have. I have no college education or writing background per-se....but I do own a very fine ball-point pen and some lined paper. I love Middle Eastern Food and music, and love to sit down to a cup of Bam-Zoom turkish coffee and smoke the hookah and share some red wine with good friends or people that are soon to become, good friends. I own a bowflex. My pants are hanging on it right now. Thank God I'm devilishly handsome or I'd be a bit worried about that. well, that's about it. That's me. Thanks for welcoming me into your cyber world, folks. perhaps one day I'll meet a few of you in person. Looking forward to hearing more from you. Steven
JaneDead Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 great post and welcome! "we are still feircly in love and laugh togethor everyday" -- that is awesome to hear
LadyWindstone Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 wow I think that's the most thorough post I've ever read. Welcome.
Fierce Critter Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 ...you canot accquire those things simply by reading some research material...including the bible. That would be like me saying I know all about the Goth culture because I have three albums by The Cure and I was really depressed yesterday. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Bravo. And LOL I work as a K9 Bomb Detection specialist in downtown detroit: I'm not a cop, I just have a dog that sniffs for bombs and to be honest I really really hope he never finds one. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I do, too. Is he a GS? Got one myself named Oakley. He's what my husband and I call a "silly shepherd". We'd refer to your dog as a "serious shepherd". I love Middle Eastern Food and music, and love to sit down to a cup of Bam-Zoom turkish coffee and smoke the hookah and share some red wine with good friends or people that are soon to become, good friends. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My husband and I wonder: if you go to a hookah bar, are you smoking the same hookah strangers are/have smoked? Isn't that a bit gross? Or are they cleaned between users somehow? I own a bowflex. My pants are hanging on it right now. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sounds like our Orbitrek - currently holding my husband's leather & helmet. Welcome!
Steven Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 that was a crack up , Critter. My Dog is a Chocolate Lab, trained in Virginia on military standards. If you've got a bomb, he'll find it. But he's still a dog. He pooped int he laundry room two weeks ago. For the most part my company uses Belgian Malanois, but the Lab is people friendly and media friendly. They clean the Hookah's after each use - and most places use a disposal mouthpeice that comes sealed in plastic till its ready to use. But it's shared among friends, so make sure you know who you hookah with.... (its fun though - you should try it - the tobacco is flavored and tastes great) Steven
