Large truck sales up after gas prices drop?

Are people so stupid as to think the drop is anything but temporary? I will gladly punch each and every person that goes out and buys a gas guzzling monster because of current incentives if any of them complains about rising gas prices - with the exception of people who actually need those trucks. Then I'll just tell them to STFU.

If you figure in that they are Lunatics...it becomes clearer. ;)

They need to start swapping honda engines into those big dodge trucks. I can then look badass yet save on fuel!

Seriously though if you really need to buy a Hummer go ahead and be a wasteful prick. Oh and sorry about your penis.

There is only one group of people that really, truly need to have hummers: The military. If you are planning to go off road on a 4-5 times a week basis and don't give a frak about the neon green super glossy paint job, then *maybe* you could use one.

Personally, in winter, I have had a better time in an 1979 RX-7 traversing icy roads, and I see these SUVs over in the ditches as I drive by. And if the snow gets too thick for the car, use common sense and just don't go out!

Please tell me that is a twin turbo rotary RX-7. They are so beautiful and I have been hunting for one for years. Oh just to touch...

Yeah and the Hummers that the military uses are completely different than ours. People would be better off buying a military hummer. The ones we buy can't even go off road...well, they can but the result is funny as hell

You "car-peoples" REALLY crack me up...THANX. :thumbsup::rofl:

What are these people thinking? Of course gas prices are going to go back up.

I have an SUV that I bought off of a former fellow employee because it was in good shape and she was practically giving it away. Sure, it's a very nice and dependable car, but it's a gas hog. I can't wait to trade it in.

I also agree with StormKnight that smaller cars seem to have better control on icy roads than SUVs. When I used to borrow my mother's tiny Saturn, I was always in total control. Now that I drive my huge Explorer, I am literally afraid to go out in the snow. It fishtails left and right when I'm simply driving straight and slides every which way, even when I put it in 4-wheel drive. Forget making turns, even at 2 mph. The sad part about this is that I am not exaggerating in any way.

F*ck that noise.

If you think that is nuts you should see what I do with my Honda Prelude in the garage when nobody is looking

I have the 1993 (FD) Twin Turbo RX-7 R1 in black. Needs some work though. The aforementioned 1979 (FB) RX-7 was my first one of these engines that I was restoring (made me a motor/rotor-head.) I would still have it if it wasn't for a Maryland driver pulling out against the flow of traffic. I was able to drive my poor thing off the road and not be a traffic nusciance. The other car was totaled.

Large vehicles do very well on ice and snow if you know how to drive one. You have to throw out that notion of invulnerability that so many people get in on. You cant drive it like it's a small lightweight front whell drive car and expect the same results.

IDGAF...keep being stupid people, keep buying them trucks so I can get my ass back to work.

I prefer smaller cars. They are easier to control due to the inertia difference. Its not like i am going to bust out a Ferrari in a michigan winter though. Lmao! If only i had one anyhow....0 to 60 in 4 seconds, over 400 some horses....ugh! I can say i like Porsche's too the one i watched on tv the other day had 500 horses and handled relatively well on the twisty curvy road while the Ferrari is to light assed.

Anywhoozle.....Buying a truck because the gas drops is the most redundant thing in the world......

Um no...just no. Honda engines are good for gas mileage, if that is your be all to end all as far as vehicle preference goes.

I, however will gladly keep my Hemi. Im happy with it, and thats all that matters to me at this point. If gas prices ever went higher then $5/gallon, then I would have to think about something else.

Oddly enough, about a month or two ago, my dodge dealer offered to buy my truck back from me. They said, (at the time) they were experiencing a high demand for trucks like mine. I kept my truck though.

Are you sure redundant is the word you are looking for?

Too late I already know a few people with Honda powered trucks, and they work well too. Yeah if you need to tow alot or power out of a tough spot then a big engine is nice. However, my love for domestics stops when all these mail order parts start rolling in. I am very happy with my '56 plymouth that doesn't have a Hemi too.

I think that diesels are a great option but...Ford and GM seem all too happy with plowing into the ground. I have seen plenty of small diesels and well built gas engines put out enough power and fuel economy to make plenty of people happy yet refrain from all the waste that you get with a big V-8.

Even V-8 engines for work vehicles and such is starting to look like a bad idea. The engine isn't the only thing that dictates how sweet your truck is.

*Note to self and Domestic car makers: Care in design and testing may take more time but may lead to better vehicles*

The reason diesel engines are not in more Ford, Chrysler and GM products is because people wont buy them. Yes, the market demand is up in the US but it is still dismally low.

Also, Diesels actually put out more nasty stuff than gasoline engines... SOME of the modern designs do better.. but not all of them.

btw.. Plymouths didn't come with a Hemi till '64.

Thats why I said "without a Hemi". However I can swap newer Hemi heads on it with a little work. I was just commenting on how I also have a V-8.

Over here we hate diesels because of what the Big 3 did to them, and because of the diesels that we see every day. We had a few clean diesels over at a show once and holy shit they are much, much better than people think. Yeah you can't get rid of exhaust because what goes in must come out. But, with the efficiency of these engines and the cost of running them...why not?

When I say to bring the turbo diesel cars and trucks over here it is not because of the power. It is because of a powerful engine not having to work hard because it is in a light chassis. People have to get rid of the pictures that come to mind when someone says diesel. Not all of them are jacked up in the air, blowing out black smoke, and covered in mud. Honda isn't using something thats gonna be shit either.

GM and Ford make great diesel engines though... but they only sell them if Europe. Ford's diesel gets 64mpg and runs damn clean.

You are right though, we need to change peoples perceptions on the diesel engine. Believe me, I would love to have a Diesel instead of the Triton I have.

As in the Ford Triton series? Damn I hate working on those things...headgasket after headgasket! Surface finish!

Anyways, I always get the European car rating magazine from a friend that lives in Germany. Right now he drive a diesel Honda Accord and has met others with diesel Civics. I'm not even gonna say what the gas mileage is because it makes me want to cry. I can't find the video anymore but he sent me one showing the running engine. You can barely hear it run and when you accelerate there is still no noise. So where is that dirty diesel?

I am actually working with a Honda dealership to get a diesel Accord over here. Looks good but now I need to work out a payment plan. Send me money and I will...give you a ride!
