and all i wanted to say

and all i gotta do

who'd i do this for hey, me or you

oh, all i want

to know

all i want

with just a touch of my burning hand

i'm gonna live my life to to destroy your world

prime directive, exterminate the whole fuckin' race

then your face drops in a pile of flesh

and then your heart, heart pounds and it pumps in death

prime directive, exterminate the whole fuckin' place

well all i wanted to say

and all i gotta do

wow so I am so overwhelmed by all these options to pick from to augment my post (Im brand new) This is quite a bit more advanced than the streaming purgatory of date site chat rooms ("Hey any chicks in Detroit area" "Any ladies in Lansing" "Any females besides my mom that want to talk to me?")

Anyway, I'm loving this topic. There are so many unorthodox choices on here.

Tonic?

Lynyrd Skynyrd?

Terry Jacks?

Queensryche?

The Beach Boys???

Although, I'll never show my face on here, for fear of looking too ungothy I can take solace in avoiding a song of the aforementioned picks, no matter how sad the lyrics are. ( Freebird? Really?? It's a pseudo-ballad celebrating wandering redneck sluts who can't commit.)

For me, to be sad and beautiful, the music has to hit just the right button, in addition to the lyric.

To start with, let me direct your attention back to Joy Division and lay on you two absolute gems

The Eternal-which opens by describing a funeral procession, need I say more

and

Atmosphere- (like love will tear us apart, only available as a single)

Ian Curtis is sooo pained singing this song you'd think he has one outstretched hand on his girlfriend's leg begging her to stay and a razor blade in the other to slit his wrists if she leaves anyway. MUCH more brooding than anything off unknown pleasures

" Don't walk away, in silence. " - It breaks you every time

I'm going to reveal my lack of any real knowledge of music. Prepare yourselves.

Tori Amos's "Winter" has to be one of the most tearjerking songs I've ever listened to.

Snow can wait

I forgot my mittens

Wipe my nose, get my new boots on

I get a little warm in my heart

When I think of winter

I put my hand in my father's glove

I run off

Where the drifts get deeper

Sleeping Beauty trips me with a frown

I hear a voice:

"You must learn to stand up

For yourself

'Cause I can't always be around"

He says when you gonna make up your mind

When you gonna love you as much as I do

When you gonna make up your mind

'Cause things are gonna change so fast

All the white horses are still in bed

I tell you that I'll always want you near

You say that things change, my dear

Boys get discovered

As winter melts

Flowers competing for the sun

Years go by

And I'm here still waiting

Withering where some snowman was

Mirror, mirror

Where's the Crystal Palace

But I only can see myself

Skating around the truth who I am

But I know, Dad, the ice is getting thin

When you gonna make up your mind

When you gonna love you as much as I do

When you gonna make up your mind

'Cause things are gonna change so fast

All the white horses are still in bed

I tell you that I'll always want you near

You say that things change, my dear

Hair is grey

And the fires are burning

So many dreams on the shelf

You say I wanted you to be proud of me

I always wanted that myself

When you gonna make up your mind

When you gonna love you as much as I do

When you gonna make up your mind

'Cause things are gonna change so vast

All the white horses have gone ahead

I tell you that I'll always want you near

You say that things change, my dear

Never change

All the white horses

Perhaps this one is just for the Tolkien geeks, but Annie Lennox's "Into the West," played in full during the final credits on Return of the King, are really moving as well...or they are, if you know what Into the West means.

Into The West

Lay down,

your sweet and weary head.

Night is falling.

You have come to journey’s end.

Sleep now, and dream

of the ones who came before.

They are calling,

from across a distant shore.

Why do you weep?

What are these tears upon your face?

Soon you will see.

All of your fears will pass away.

Safe in my arms,

you’re only sleeping.

What can you see,

on the horizon?

Why do the white gulls call?

Across the sea,

a pale moon rises.

The ships have come,

to carry you home.

And all will turn,

to silver glass.

A light on the water.

All souls pass.

Hope fades,

Into the world of night.

Through shadows falling,

Out of memory and time.

Don’t say,

We have come now to the end.

White shores are calling.

You and I will meet again.

And you’ll be here in my arms,

Just sleeping.

What can you see,

on the horizon?

Why do the white gulls call?

Across the sea,

a pale moon rises.

The ships have come,

to carry you home.

And all will turn,

to silver glass.

A light on the water.

Grey ships pass

Into the west.

Damn Shade, I'd have never've imagned you'd listen to Tori Amos 'or' that one of her songs could break you up, but we all still think you're cool, man. No worries.

Shade-

NEVER apologize for liking Tori Amos. (For head scratchers, look at my earlier post. Im still waiting for their sorries) Winter is off her debut, Little Earthquakes where through her little piano she gives some of the most heart wrenching lyrics ever put to music. She was good friends with Trent Reznor at the time (sample lyric from her debut, more specifically Precious Things, "...with their nine inch nails and little fascist panties stuck inside the heart of every nice girl") and it makes sense because lyrically and thematically Pretty Hate Machine and Little Earthquakes

are not that different. The girl was raped and she sat down and put a song to it.

That's a lot more hardcore than standing in a graveyard with fishnet stockings.

Anyway Im not going to became the Tori Amos guy. (In my short time Ive seen the damage a singe artist fixation, such as, I dont know, the Beach Boys, for example, has done) But I'll say this, Tori may be a little pixie with a high voice, but she's got an emotional depth most goth groups would die for

(If you want listen to possibly her creepiest song, hear her version of '97 Bonnie and Clyde from Eminem. Play it at midnight with the lights off. I still get goosebumps thinking about it)

ONE little suggestion for the other posters.

If you post your favorite song's lyrics, include (in big letters if you'd like) the artist name and song title. Us music fiends need to know what to run out and blow our money on tomorrow

That's all. I hope to get down to the City Club and meet you all sometime

Maybe it's just me but I find it hard for a song that has lyrics to have the same kind of impact on my deeper self then a well done instrumental, I really can't think of too many songs with lyrics (with a few exceptions) that can get me in such a profound way.

30,000 Feet-Assemblage 23

Hello, if you're there pick up the phone

I'm calling from 30,000 feet above you

The captain's just informed us that our plane is going down

So I'm calling for one last time to say I love you

I'm not certain how much time I may have left, so I'll be brief

I'm sorry if this message only amplifies your grief

But I couldn't bear the burden of never having said goodbye

And the pain you feel, I promise you, will go away with time

I'm sorry I won¹t be there to see our children grow

Please tell them that I loved them more than they will ever know

Tell my family and friends how much I loved them all as well

I"m sure that we will meet again, but only time will tell

I'm sorry most of all I won¹t be there when you grow old

To be there by your side and keep you warm when you are cold

Forgive me, but I think my time is drawing to a close

So I've one last thing to tell you now before I have to go

I...

If you haven't heard this song it sounds like it's coming from an answering maching. The "I..." is a cut off then you hear static.
