Ghosts, the Paranormal, Mythical Creatures

So, after getting the idea to start a creepy story, I'm curious as to what your take on the paranormal is. Do you believe in ghosts? better yet, do you have any experiences? What's your belief on the existence of other creatures like demons, goblins, fairies and the like?

I, for one, DO believe in ghosts, just as i always have since my grandfather told me the story of how he and my aunt encountered a Mexican spirit in their own house (( I forget the woman's name but she is a Mexican dancer whose apparition has appeared all over )).

When I went into high school, I decided to expand my horizons and learn about mythology and creatures that lie within it. So I believe in other such beings like those mentioned above.

How about you?

I do, and the list is loooooooooooooong....

Wow, that was quick. OO;

I remember a 'wierd' encounter when I was a kid. My sisters and were home alone and while we never saw any ghostly apparitions, we remember our cat Shiloh acting rather weird. I was in the living room watching "Wild and Crazy Kids" when Shiloh seemed to be thrown off my bunk bed. When he landed, he turned around and just stared into my bedroom. My sisters and I heard the scuffling and there we saw Shiloh, standing still, spooked, and looking into my bedroom. So we picked the cat up and into my bedroom we went. We turned on the light and just sat in there. Shiloh kept staring at the wall that had the window. Nothing strange really, just that he wouldnt stop staring at the wall.

Nothing else happened that night, save for my mom's Troll doll falling off the bookshelf. Big whoop.

I remember one time, I had this dream where my mother had put a ton of stickers and plastic bags into my desk. I remember her saying "If you see any ghosts, I'll bag them for you." Now, even as a kid, I knew that a ghost could pass through something or disappear, so in my dream I rolled my eyes and went "Mmhmm, whatever." Well, I started sifting through the stickers in my desk drawer and found one shaped like a ghost. I flipped the sticker over and the words "dont pick this sticker up" were written on it. I looked into my closet and there stood the ghost of a little girl. Now that I think about it, she kinda looked like me when I was around 5 years old, with pigtails and a jumper on. Then i woke up.

Another dream I had, I kept hearing this voice come from my closet. When I went into the closet, I heard the voice say "Get OUT!! This is my home!" So I got a little cocky and asked "If this is your home, do you where these clothes?" and the voice said "As if I would!!" Then, out of nowhere, a basket fell and inside there was a doll's head that had a bell inside it. The head kept rolling around and whenever the bell jingled, it was in the same pattern that the voice spoke.

Now, in real life, the first time I went over to my friend Sarah's house, I was laying on her bed with our friend Kalise and I happened to look over at Sarah's closet and went "HOLY SHIT!!" When everyone (( Sarah, Lindsay and Kalise )) asked me what was up, i told them about the dream of the doll's head.

Sarah's closet looked exactly like the closet in my dream.

I know, what a jerk!

But I think a lot of people at the forum do; it's come up before. They're probably just not posting now because they don't have time to waste while at work.

Does it count if you don't really believe in ghosts? ;)

I was small, must have been about 7. This was way back in the times where country doctors actually did house calls. My grandmother had died not too long before.

I had a high fever and I remember the doctor being called to see me, can stlil see in my mind that black leather doctor's bag sitting on my bed. Those were the days - no dragging sick kids out when they were feverish and pukey.

He gave me some sort of shot and some codeine cough syrup. I drifted off to sleep and remember waking up and looking at the rocking chair rocking at the end of my bed. Nobody was in it and then my grandmother's image slowly faded into view. She was so beautiful with her dark wavy hair and dark eyes, high cheekbones. I wasn't afraid. I called my mother in and as she opened the door the image was suddenly gone.

I think I seriously creeped her out, having lost her mother so suddenly from cancer just a short time before.

Although I'd somehow *like* to believe, I don't think it was my grandmother though. I think it was a product of the high fever, the codeine and a dreamlike state.

Nope, I saw it. But this is a discussion on whether or not we believe in them, no whether or not we want to go/can make it to a ghost hunt.

I remember Memorial day, 1997. I was with my grandparents at the service they do in the graveyards, with the firing of rifles and such. After the service, my grandmother's cellphone rang.

My great-grandfather, 'Papa' as we called him, had just died.

Mema, my grandmother and Pepa, grandfather drove me home. I was bawling my eyes out, as was everyone else.

But I remember, a few nights later, having a dream where I was standing in a field of sorts and in the middle of this field was a dirt road. In front of me stood Papa. There he was, dressed in his tan coat, gray pants and white shirt, looking at me through his glasses and saying "I'm alright."

Then I woke up.

However, that's not entirely the end. My sister Allison (( whom you folks might meet on saturday if she gets her arse to the club )) has an abilty. I'd like to call her an empath, somewhat psychic. Well anyway, she, myself and our dad had moved in to this awesome house. But, occasionally, Al and I would feel the presence of something nearby. I would feel like someone was always watching me, Allison would claim she saw figures in her room. However, because she was more in tune than I was, she later claimed that one of the spirits was Papa. her friend Emily could even vouch for that, as one night the two girls were in Allison's room and they saw one of the figures come out of Al's closet in the form of a shadow, and it resembled Papa.

back when i was like five or six, before i would go to bed i would make sure i had the coffee pot ready to brew at 330 so when my mom got up coffee would be ready for her before she left for work. well ontime i actually turned the coffee pot on so i had to redo it the second time i know i put the pot on auto but it still brewed anyways. than to top it off later that night the tv came on while the button was pushed in (we had those old ones where u had to pull the button out to turn it on) and the bathroon light came on while it was in the off position and we couldnt get it to go back off.

than one day my brother had a meeeting at his soon to be middle school and my mom told him he could just go home after the meeting well he said that when he opened the door and he said that things were getting thrown at him from my room. no one was home though i was at school and our mom was at work.

i think its all creepy and probably had something to do with my mom keeping her uncle ashes in the attic :cat:

Logic tells me that I don't believe in ghosts... but I still get the heebies sometimes, so somewhere in my head.. yup.. *L*

I have numerous experiences that defy logical, scientific, and religious explainations. I firmly believe that like matter, a soul cannot be created or destroyed. I personally have some hum-dinger stories that are best left to be shared over a drink or told at a campfire that are true. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't lived through it myself.

I'm an open-minded skeptic. Just 'cause I haven't experienced something, doesn't mean I think it doesn't exist or is BS.

But I stop short of saying, "yes, it definitely exists/happens" if I haven't myself experienced it, or seen what I think is convincing documentation of something.

I believe my brother has come to me in dreams. This past January was both his birthday and the anniversary of his death. And he came to me a lot, more than ever in the past. It was meaningful enough that I don't feel it was strictly coincidence.

When we moved from Lincoln Park to Taylor in the mid '70's, the house we lived in was formerly occupied by a man who died down the street in an accident. Things would often come up missing without explanation. We'd always say, "Mr. Bedore took it". We didn't really believe that, but a little, tiny part of me did when I was younger.

Things I kinda don't put stock in are things like fairies, goblins, etc. I think that's all mythology, tall tales, etc. But I won't step on anyone who wants to believe in things like that - I don't see the harm in it.

I grew up in a house that was "haunted". The resident ghost was an older man, in his 50's. I named him "Ben" when I was 12. When alone at night, reading, I would get this feeling of someone reading over my shoulder. You could hear him walking around mostly at night in shoes. I did see him a few times in the basement, as did some of my friends. (A few of which never visited again.) I talked with my mom about it and she said she already knew, as she had seen him too. When I was 16, I did some research at the local library and found out that there was a man, in his upper 50's who was the original owner and died of a heart attack in the living room. Imagine my surprise when I saw his name was Benjamin.

Don't know why I didn't think to start this thread m'self. Good idea, FarrIL =)

I'm not sure what you would call the house I grew up in - but haunted seems too strong a word. The activity in our house was pretty much limited to noises. The basement creeped everyone out. My sister and I would hear someone playing pool when there was no one down there. When my room was added (it was in the basement), I would hear someone coming down the stairs. I would open my door and watch the stairs. I could distinctly hear someone stepping on each stair and then stop at the bottom... but I saw nothing. The most interesting thing that ever happened: I heard a whispery voice call my name 3 times. I thought it was my friend calling me from the bathroom. Which is why I heard it three times. I heard my name, I said, "what?" I heard it again and again I said, "what?" by the third time I was like, "WHAT??" ... until I realized that unless my friend had suddenly developed a true talent for ventriloquism, it wasn't her. That was fun.

An unrelated side-note: A few years after we sold the house, the man who was living there with his family took his two youngest children hostage. It was on the news. When I heard that it was a house on Juneau street in Ypsi, I was really hoping it wouldn't be my old house. The police ended up storming the house and shooting the guy to death right in front of his kids, and right next to my old bedroom in the basement.

I've had one or two other experiences, but, wow, even the short stories seem like a lot of typing...

If the haunting was limited to mainly noises, I'd say you had a minor Poltergeist scare. Poltergeists are pretty creepy when you read deeper into the concept of the "Noisy Ghost."

I remember one time, the summer between 9th and 10th grade, I was visiting some distant relatives in Port Austin, right at the tip of the thumb of Michigan. it was me, my sister Allison, our dad, his sister and her husband (( I love my aunt and uncle )) and our cousin Sarah, as well as her BF in one huge cabin. Mind you, this cabin was big enough to house at least 10 people comfortably. The only issue was the single bathroom.

Well, I'm not gonna talk about the cabin....... as the only creppy thing about it was the nearly 100 daddy longlegs crawling over just two sides of the cabin.

ANYWAY, I remember one day, my dad, sister and I went along the shorelines to explore the coves and caves that the huge rocks had formed. My sister had taken her waterproof, disposable camera with her and took pictures. After we came home, from the week's visit, she got her film devloped.

Fast forward about 2 weeks.... I'm prpeairing to test for my black stripe in Tae Kwon Do and Allison, my sister, pulls me aside and asks "Can I show you something?"

She showed me one of the photos she took. At first glance, you saw a small, misty cloud that looked like the left side of someone's face, perring out from behind a huge rock. I pointed that out and Allison says "Take another look. Doesnt it also look like a profile too?" And when she mentioned that, I also saw a perfectly defined profile of someone walking in the foreground. then Allison used her index finger and pointed out the cloak-like hood around the profile.

It looked like Death walked in front of the camera lense when my sister snapped the picture. I kid you not. What's even more interesting is when I asked her "What about the rock? Isnt this just some reflection off the rock? Or isnt this on the rock itself?" My sister grabbed a pencil and pointed out the edge of the rock was behind this figure. Whatever it was in the photo, was in front of the rock.

Let's jsut say I walked into my test a little creeped out.

Hrm...Is yesterday to soon a date to have seen the most recent ghost. I have a ghost that lives in my house. He is a male. He's younger and benevolent. He follows me in my mirrors. Out of the corner of my eye as I'm walking in front of them. I have a lot of mirrors. He also left a mysterious bleach puddle in the middle of my laundry room. Crazy shit keeps happening in my house, but it just amuses me.

There is one that lives in my parents house. She decided to make herself apparent to my Dad the other night by running up the basement stairs. Slamming the door and then quietly opening and closing the front door. Both of the locks were on when my Dad checked it.

Ouija Boards are always the shit. Some kid I was with once decided to be stupid and ask If the devil was there or something stupid like that. We all took our hands of the thing because it started spinning in place really fast and then the glass turned black and cracked.

I've also had three spirits following my ass around for about 5 years now. Two males and a female. They used to be nice. Then they were bad (one tried to kill me a couple times) and now they are nice again. One of them guards my car (Norman.)

Those are just a few, didn't mean to type so much. I definately believe that ghosts are a MAJOR part of my life. Plus it wouldn't that much fun without them.

As a former paranormal investigator and researcher and a magick practitioner, it was quite difficult to juggle the two, remaining unbiased, but somehow I did it. Ultimately I would say that I believe in an existence beyond our scope of perception. That is it.

I do not know what to name this, but simply call expriences and things that show up in this 'reality' perhaps from others, as anamolies. To me things that happen that cannot be readily explained may not be 'super'natural, they may very well be perfectly natural, but we have supressed or unlearned our ways of percieving these things, so to us, they are beyond what we know as every day.

I have had many experiences that lead me to believe there are other energies, places, times, etc. ongoing outside of what we readily know.

(but then again, I don't believe in time as linear, and I do believe there are other times in existence along side our currently percived 'time')

At the risk of sounding like a nut....here goes on the ghost thing. When I was 12 I was laying in bed when I felt like something creepy and ominous came into the room. I was looking around kinda freaked out. It was my grandma's house, lots of old weird family history there. I don't like it there much. It is in N.C. Well this old lady all white like just some weird kind of 'cold' if you will...energy form holding a big stick appeared over me trying to beat my legs with the stick. I didn't actually feel the beating and realized I could get rid of the apparition if I concentrated on feeling calm.

Now my family asked me why I won't go down there and I told them. I guess everyone feels creeped out in that house.

Also, I had a ghost child come into my house after having a chaotic freind over. I had to go see the guy at the Akashic record on Gratiot to get the info on a proper banishing. He is a very knowledgeable guy if anyone ever needs help. It worked. Other than that I have seen or herd little astrial things scurrying around or munching whatever they do and have seen some other stuff but too extensive to mention.
