DJ Nocker Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 To me, the first thing that comes to mind is the original poster for "Dawn of the Dead". how about you?
Head Wreck Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 lame movies about spoilt collage kids skyving of thier studies to get drunk and get killed more by their ineptitude than the so called killer.
freydis Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 A good film, or a bad one? The best ones are the ones you hear complete silence after the credits roll..... heheheheheh
DJ Nocker Posted November 30, 2008 Author Posted November 30, 2008 A good film, or a bad one? The best ones are the ones you hear complete silence after the credits roll..... heheheheheh The genre as a whole
Destroit Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 Does Pretty Woman count? I know it was a whore movie, but it was so fucking cheesy and stupid I would have labeled it a horror movie because of how much your IQ drops just by watching that stupid feminine fairy tale dribble. And other movies like it...for instance, I had to sit through Titanic 8 times because I just happened to be a 12 year old girl in 1997 (talk about being in the wrong gender at the wrong time, and having to hang out with other girls)...I can pretty much handle anything now after that. So movies of the ultra cheesy romance girly girly froo froo crap....that is true horror for me, and it is so disturbing...that I cannot sit through it .
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 In the Mouth of Maddness comes to mind... anything that gets in your head and truly scares you.
DJ Nocker Posted November 30, 2008 Author Posted November 30, 2008 In the Mouth of Maddness comes to mind... anything that gets in your head and truly scares you. In the Mouth of Madness was fantastic!
Simon Bar Sinister Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 Phantasm. There are better examples of the genre, but that one's always the 1st that comes to mind.
DJ Nocker Posted November 30, 2008 Author Posted November 30, 2008 Vincent Price. That is all. Very nice! I was expecting more posts saying Hitchcock, im surprised.
Destroit Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 In the Mouth of Maddness comes to mind... anything that gets in your head and truly scares you. Yeah, that one was unsettling to me when I saw it...at like...age 10 .
Head Wreck Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 hitchocks birds was good very good. but he only dabled in the horror genre. as for vincent price. Dr. phibes. thats all i have to say on that matter :D
Destroit Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 My favorite kind of horror movie is usually more of a "situational" horror so to speak. Not like Michael Myers walking around all non-chalant with a knife stabbing people that are hiding in a house when they should be running outside, I'm talking true situational horror in the fact that fate keeps carrying the people through all of this crazy fucked up life-altering horrible bullshit. What comes to mind in particular when I say this? The Doom Generation, the entire movie you can't help but feel this sense of panic and dread that becomes more and more intense as the movie rolls forward. I mean hell, a week ago Pestilence and I went through a McDonald's, and the total came to $6.66. I was like "oh...FUCK no" and almost had him pull the car over, insisting that I didn't feel like watching him get his dick lopped off and fed to him by the end of the journey, while I'm getting gang raped by KKK style hicks . So for me it's not gore, or some crazy looking guy lurking around the corner waiting to pop out and go BOO! *STAB!*, but rather building intense situational panic and anxiety that is so great you almost feel like you're in the movie and there's no escape from it. And to think, the only real reason I bought/watched it was because Skinny Puppy is in the beginning for like 30-45 seconds, and Ogre says about four words .
Enishi Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 I can't get "truly" frightened by a horror movie unless it has some sort of supernatural element. Slasher flicks can make me tense at times, but they don't scare me.
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 In the Mouth of Madness was fantastic! The sublte things going on in the back ground that are never pointed out are fantastic touches... even the subtle things that are pointed out are great... the painting in the lobby of teh hotal that is slightly different every time you see it... and they only point that out during the last change...
jynxxxedangel Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 Phantasm. There are better examples of the genre, but that one's always the 1st that comes to mind. I also LOVE this movie. Here's a link to the full version-- enjoy! Phantasm
StormKnight (1) Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Psycho Fahrenheit 451. Any such totalitarian lack of intellectual freedom is at least to me, quite disturbing.
DarkVampire Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Old school movies like Dracula and Frankenstein from the 30's.
Mouf Breathah Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 What I think of when I hear the words "Horror Movie" is: "It better not be rated PG-13!" There is just far too much of this watered down "horror" crap out now. This whole genre that only exists to make a quick buck of mommy & daddys money just makes me ill. It doesn't seem to be losing any steam either. There's just more & more of the same crap year after year. That, IMO, is what's truly scary about these movies.

I dig hard to find the good stuff.
Bernadette Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Flicks that make me scream, gasp, cry, hide, and may give me nightmares. 'I am Legend' was the last movie that did this to me. (I was surprised by my reaction.)
