Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 What I think of when I hear the words "Horror Movie" is: "It better not be rated PG-13!" There is just far too much of this watered down "horror" crap out now. This whole genre that only exists to make a quick buck of mommy & daddys money just makes me ill. It doesn't seem to be losing any steam either. There's just more & more of the same crap year after year. That, IMO, is what's truly scary about these movies. but, what is a horror movie to you?
n0Mad Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Phantasm. There are better examples of the genre, but that one's always the 1st that comes to mind. Yes. This is the first horror movie I ever saw and I think I was in 3rd grade at the time. Scared the shit out of me. I haven't seen it since and I don't think it would have nearly the same effect on me. But this is the first movie that comes to mind for me.
taysteewonderbunny Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 First movie that scared the crap out of me was the original "Haunting of Hill House". More suspense/thriller than horror. I would put most of Hitchcock in that genre too. A more recent example of the genre I enjoyed was "The Machinist". For horror, real blud and goots horror, "High Tension" was really disturbing for me, even though I figured out what was happening pretty early on. Unfortunately, though, nothing I've seen in movies can compare to some of the stuff I've seen firsthand (not by my hand, fear not).
Msterbeau Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I don't like being scared. I dislike horror. Yeah.. I know... probably the most un-goth thing ever uttered on DGN...
brandywine0880 Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 When I hear "horror movie" I think about the first ten minutes of "28 Weeks Later" That shit really freaked me out. The infected are all running around fast as hell, people are trying to run away, and there's this freaky ass music playing in the background. It's awesome.
n0Mad Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I don't like being scared. I dislike horror. Yeah.. I know... probably the most un-goth thing ever uttered on DGN... No, I actually agree with you. Horror is my least favorite movie genre.
phee Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 In the Mouth of Maddness comes to mind... anything that gets in your head and truly scares you. +!
phee Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 usually "Horror" movies don't scare me..... they are amusing (with some exceptions like "The Shining") The movies that really get me though are usually the ones that are not horror specific like "Lost Highway", or "Primer" for example... movies that make you question your own sanity.
Mouf Breathah Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 but, what is a horror movie to you? Monsters/serial killers/murder/the undead/blood/guts/ghosts/the occult/ritualistic killings/zombies/torture/the-occaisional-bare-breast/gore/beasts/demons... Pretty much everything that's on my christmas list.
Bernadette Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 I was actually unimpressed with I Am Legend...I was expecting more. Aha, you see -- I wasn't sure what to expect. Maybe it's all relative. I don't like being scared. I dislike horror. Yeah.. I know... probably the most un-goth thing ever uttered on DGN... And I'm not so much a scary movie watcher myself either.
