Nienna Posted December 24, 2008 Author Posted December 24, 2008 Well, I'm presuming that you're cut from the same same stock as your Mom. And knowing the strength in you, is enough for me to believe she has the same strength necessary to conquer this. I have a strong feeling she will be fine. Aww! LOL Thank you.
bean Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Update: Mom had her surgery today. It went VERY well, and she is totally herself and already feeling better. I spent quite awhile with her this afternoon and am feeling rather relieved. The tumor ended up being the size of a medium apple, but elongated. They were able to remove most of it but had to leave some of it along one of the ventricles in her brain to avoid damage. We don't have the pathology report yet but the doctor feels it is malignant and is a Stage 3 or 4 tumor. She'll have chemo and radiation for about 6 weeks and we'll hope for the best. Not the greatest outcome but she came through this first obstacle very well so everyone is feeling cheerful and hopeful.
Nienna Posted December 25, 2008 Author Posted December 25, 2008 Update: Still no pathology report. They say maybe Monday now? Mom came home yesterday afternoon. They told her it was the earliest they have ever released anyone after that surgery but she was doing so well, there was no reason to keep her. She is starting to get some pretty severe swelling in her forehead / eyes though so she looks pretty bad. The doctors say it is normal though.
taysteewonderbunny Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 I'm so glad that she can be home for the holiday! I'm still hoping for good news on the pathology report. Hugs and best wishes to you and yours!

Nienna Posted December 26, 2008 Author Posted December 26, 2008 Mom seemed quite well today, more energetic than I've seen her in a long time! Yay!
Nienna Posted January 6, 2009 Author Posted January 6, 2009 Amazingly, horribly, no. We don't have the pathology back. The doctor is on vacation. *fumes* Hopefully next week.
StormKnight (1) Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Not even a preliminary report?! AAAAAAAARGH!!! Pathologists and Radiologists...the frakking banker hours doctors. Not that I am bitter about either specialties being impossible to find to talk to for results that have to be done quickly. Nope. Not a bit. This pathologist had better be one of the better in his field... My hopes are with you.
Nienna Posted January 6, 2009 Author Posted January 6, 2009 Yeah still no word. Ugh. Good thing she doesn't have cancer or something.. oh wait. ><
Nienna Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 Path report came back. It is a Stage 4 Glioblastoma. Basically the worst result possible, but she has the best scenario possible within it. The doctors think she'll do well with treatments and we have hope.

I'm just going to send my wishes and your way and hope she'll conquer this soon. And don't forget to take care of yourself. We too often forget ourselves when thinking of our loved ones.
