Would you ever consider writing someone in prison. Im not talking someone you know, either family or friends or whatever.

Im talking actually writing a random person locked up.

What's your thoughts on this?

I thought about doing this a few years ago for some reason that I forgot about. I looked into it and researched it, found a few places that seems to be good but then I completely forgot about it all.

I don't think there isn't anything wrong with it just as long you don't go and get too personal about yourself. Just use a little common sense when writing these people.

Lol not really randomly per say. They have sites where you can look at ads. The only thing is you have to watch it because some of them are just looking to get people to send them money or for legal help. Or they are looking for romance That is not something im interested in.

I have wanted to write a couple serial killers in prison just to see what made them tick(I almost had an associates in law enforcement from macomb comm coll but switched to computers for my AAS serial crime interests me) the famous ones. Like BTK(although his mail is screened becuz hes not allowed to see anything in the newspaper or articles about his crimes per court order) or Gary Ridgeway I'd like to talk to. Jeffrey Dahlmers dead so no writing him my note would be burnt to a crisp by the time it reached him in hell.

that kinda triped me out reading it cuz i wanted to write a few as well werid...i just think it would be very interesting to be a pen pal with someone from jail anyway iam sure it would be nice for someone to be able to talk to and not deal with chaos ALTHOUGH they do desreve punishment but to a degree

well those were just thoghts when in was younger now if i was to do it it would be to be a freind to someone becuase yes i could see it being very lonely in there and they wanting to talk to someone so yes i could do it prolly

Probably wasn't very smart, though.

As a matter of fact, I was pretty young when I did, and the gentleman in question made me promise not to write anyone else in prison. Because it was dangerous.....

I heard back from my first pen pal yesterday.

He's a lifer in for premed murder.

He wrote a 7 page letter and even drew me a bad ass design on the front of the envelope!

I was pretty happy with it!

He was this older cool azz fuck gay guy I met on SG

My first thought was "it might be nice to have a pen pal". I looked at the sight, found someone who seemed interesting enough and wrote down his info. Then my logic kick in and say "WTF are you thinking" .

But I had to know what it was he did. I searched for a good 2 hours before I found what I was looking for.

He killed his girlfriend, and his girlfriends 4 year old daughter. Even worse, he strangled them, Hid them in plastic containers, and went to sleep.

Yeah, he just doesn't seem interesting anymore. And this reminds me to ALWAYS LISTEN to my LOGIC.

I would never do that.

Even if the person seemed all nice and normal sounding, it could be just a good act.

No one knows what kind of effect being in prison has had on them mentally/emotionally.

I think if someone writes to some in prison, they're just asking for trouble.

My ex fiance proposed to me while he was in prision. He changed after his sentence, and not for the better.

I wouldn't recommend it myself personally, but if you're taking the neccesary precautions I don't see anything horrible about it.

I was thinking about this earlier, and it occured to me that if you want a pen pal without the danger factor, write a military member. Some of our guys and gals don't have family to write them and would really love the support.

It's funny that you mention it. But I am part of a group called Soldiers Angels.

I support the military and have many that I right, send packages, and bake for on a monthly basis :D

So yea I have the good and bad side of pen pals.

I think it's a cool thing if you like penpals because those in prison are bored as fuck and will write you back every time... I know that when I was locked up I was penpals with people from across the world thanks to a couple websites I had my friends post on for me. In fact I got the most mail of anyone in my cell block... I would spend half my day writing long letters back, and that's what helped me keep my sanity for the short amount of time I spent behind bars.

The precautions I'll give from an inside perspective are...

1. Some people are just nuts and you never know who. No home addresses, no phone numbers.

2. No information that you don't want them to share with their cell mates...

3. No extras in the envelope (stamps, panties, photos, etc), and no sexual talk unless you have talked about it first as many institutions will read your letter and confiscate it for certain reasons. Make sure you know what's ok to write...

4. Don't get too attached. Many will never make it out, and those who do might forget all about writing letters once they are back in the real world.

5. If you want to get into the mind of a killer, be careful. While interesting it is also dangerous. Some will just want to play a game with you and you may never know the real story.
