My heart goes out to John and his wife, John always seemed like such a great guy. 16...I would just die inside...

When John was shooting Ladder 49 in Baltimore, I had a few friends who were either extras or worked on the set. They said that he was the coolest, most down-to-earth actor. He was warm and friendly, and spoke of his family with a lot of love.

I know that I'd be destroyed if anything happened to either on of my kids. To be a public figure and to have to deal with this must be unbearable...

At the risk of pissing a lot of people off I blame that stupid fucking idiot and his airhead wife. They're both scientologists. That child was MENTALLY HANDICAPPED, and by neglect of not treating his illness they allowed this to happen.

Kawaski's syndrome from carpet chemicals? My ass. He was autistic and they just didn't want their other alien-worshipping friends to know they gave birth to a lesser human. They killed that child, just as if they had locked someone suicidal in a room filled with razor blades.

My sympathy goes out to a lot of people, and of course to his parents. But I think they should have been charged with neglect a long time ago, the child would still be alive today.

As it were they sure were speedy about burning his remains out of country and secretively.

Surprisingly enough I agree with a majority of this statement. There isn't really treatment for autism. You only can take them to special schools to help them learn better. (I have an autistic brother) If the child had a history of epileptic seizures, then he should have been treated. Though, I doubt there was much attention given to the child other than to appease the media.

I can't say all my sources are valid but I hear tell that Jett would sit playing video games all day, eating potato chips and the like, basically being a slob. To allow your child, espcially one who is autistic, to do that, is neglect.

Beh. It wouldn't surprise me. Hollywood super stars generally don't even know how to wipe their own ass.

Stopping celebs from having and raising kids should be a major issue. The majority of them come out with some sort of mental illness or are put into unhealthy situations because of their parents status. How many celeb children have to die horrible deaths before people realize this? How many more show stopping funerals that cost more than my life have to be held for them? If these people want to be part of the freakshow that is their industry then fine but they need to think very carefully before having and raising children...they are not just cute pets that get you attention...they are humans that need attention and love from their parents that nothing else can provide. They need a home and not celeb that I know has provided that...and multiple homes that cost millions each is not a home, neither are expensive cars and huge birthday parties.

Spay or neuter your celebs before I have to do it for you.

Yeah, if that is the case, that is neglect...

Probably not B...first off, there aren't a lot of parents here on DGN. Secondly, to be honest, I was pretty ignorant about autism until I met you and got schooled up a bit. But ignorance is NOT an excuse...it's just ignorance.

I do think he truly loved his child, but I think he was very very misguided. Scientology has some very extreme ideas about medications and treatment and sometimes it's taken too far.

They also have a special team of celebrity "handlers" who target Hollywood.

His son was on seizure meds but they took him off it. I'm sure he believed he was doing the right thing by trying detoxification and such things, but you can't treat grand mal seizures with only that.

CLASSES, not medicine. You can't give kids drugs and say that it's treatment for autism. I've seen what drugs do to kids with autism and makes them fucking lifeless. Any personality or energy that they once had is ripped from them. It appalled me. My autistic brother is 13, meaning I know how to take care of and judge character a little better than you give me credit for. Thanks.

Unfortunately, classes don't work for everyone. Sometimes, it's a combination of meds, or meds and classes. It sure doesn't help when the school system doesn't "get" your child....

And, I assure you that I'm not judging those who know what families of Autistic children and adults are dealing with. It's others who don't, yet make uneducated judgement calls. I just LOVE it when people with so-called "normal" children tell you that you just need to learn how to raise them better.

I did not quote you. so don't take offense.

And perhaps you do have a bit more insight than others Necromanta. I know that B gets a lil tired of folks talking outta their heineys. Even a lot of the psycologists/psychiatrists/socialworkers/guidance counselors/etc don't know what the F they're talking about sometimes. It's quite frustrating for us watching our 15 year old son of go through all the ranges of issues he has with Aspergers.

Every case is different...some kids need some (more or less) meds...and with teens...going through growth spurts and hormonal changes...it can be a very delicate, challenging balancing act.

I'm only 21, but it's been an interesting ride.

Being 11 years old, trying to defend the child from 16 year old kids calling him retarded. Then trying to throw me into the mix and start fights. It's ridiculous on how some people interpret things, don't you worry. I understand completely.

Sweetie...I bet we could exchange horror stories about both the so-called normals and their pathetic therapists. People are fucked up. And all we can do is keep fighting.

There was a 20/20 special to where an autistic child actually managed to learn how to type. She was typing in complete and rational sentences. (Structurally sound even) Mostly what she tried to point out is that they have feelings just like the rest of us. They understand more than they put off. They don't want to be judged and would rather you treat them like people instead of special. It gave me hope to see what will change in the next twenty years.

Very true, research even shows that as much as 20% of children who either have Asperger's or are suspected of having it grow out of it into adulthood. I've looked into it because Boshy thinks I'm of the 20% category. I was never diagnosed as a child, but show each and every symptom of having Asperger's, but by conditioning me as a child, Boshy seemingly curbed these symptoms and while I still have trouble behaviorly and socially, I am quite far along compared to when I was young.

I'll never know if I actually have or had Asperger's, but the condition is very dynamic in how it affects different individuals, so that must always be taken into consideration when it comes to treatment.

I hope that Ian grows out of it...

My friends little brother is autistic and since they had little money to pay for meds they used therapy and other things that they could do at home for cheap. Its been a few years now and he will soon graduate from grade school and it looks good for him going to high school...a normal one. I think that it had alot to do with his parents and his brothers and sisters. They never left him alone and always treated him like a normal person. Besides a slight speech problem and some of his facial features you would never know that he has a problem. This all happened while he was going through all his cancer treatments. The only meds that he ever had were for his cancer treatments and nothing else. True, meds may have helped but at what cost? Money aside I know of no meds that don't have nasty side effects some of which can create other problems. When did we get so hooked on meds again? Why are they the solution with care and attention being nothing but supplements? Shit, its taken years to change the idiotic notion that weed is bad it could take centuries before we really look into meds. Herbal medicine may not look good but I have seen more promise from them as of late than I have seen from "regular" meds.

In the end you must realize that foreign chemicals are being put into your body with any meds you take from the pharmacy...and the herbal stuff can heal you to a better state than before. I would rather slowly die of something with a clean body than pump a mixture of shit into my bloodstream trying to avoid what will happen no matter what. Fine, treat yourself with whatever you are led to believe will help that is you choice. But I will avoid those things as much as possible while I live because various herbs and gallons of tea for something like a cold is much better than nasty syrup and pill that affect you motor skills and brain function.

Oh and if a drug company is reading this...FUCK YOU!

My ex-stepbrother was diagnosed autistic just a bit after he left my life (Dad divorced his mother about 5 years ago) and us being so close in age, and not truly related, I did make fun of him. When my father married his mother I was about 5 years old, and actually quite hated him. He bit people, he scratched, he had temper tantrums. When my stepmother first told me about 'Craig' I thought she was talking about a dog because she started off with 'careful, he bites and scratches'.

He had it pretty bad, along with a speech impediment. I bullied him all over the place because he'd do things like steal my video games and save over my hard-earned work, or steal money (which, being pretty young, I only had money when my birthday or christmas came around). He also would peek through the shower curtains and watch me, and this was during a time my body was just starting to develop. I tried locking the bathroom door so he couldn't anymore, but his mother was a bitch and wouldn't let me in case someone had to use the toilet. He got whatever he wanted, when he wanted, because at the time he was still undiagnosed and his mom would rather shut him up then deal with any sort of punishment. My father worked too much to be much help in structuring him.

I hated him with a passion, and so did my biological brother. Growing up the sibling of someone like that is Very emotionally stressing, especially when you simultaneously feel the need to protect him from the jeers of others. Once I hit my mid-teens it was especially difficult.

I know a thing or two about the more difficult side of autistic children. Lived and battled with one for 10 years.
