hunhee Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 (edited) I went for a very invigorating walk with a good friend this morning! It's always good to suffer with a friend, as opposed to suffering by oneself. Although, I have learned that I can suffer on my own, and it's okay. I have an mp3 player, which I really don't touch because I still haven't figured out how to take songs on and off it, but there's plenty of songs already on it, and I just nix the songs I don't want to listen to. I'm not really that picky (when it comes to exercise music). Anyway, keeping up the good work. Edited April 1, 2010 by hunhee
taysteewonderbunny Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 (edited) I don't know, that could be. I'm eating 1200-1300 right now but I feel hungry a lot. I think it's because I've built some muscle. I'm going to increase my calories to 1600 like you suggested. Don't know how I will do it, because it's hard enough to eat 1200-1300 calories, I'll be literally eating every two hours. I'll give it a couple of weeks and see how it goes. The scale is not moving and I'm getting a bit frustrated with it. I hate plateaus. Fucking hate them. Yeah, don't eat too little. If you're hungry, you need food. Just make sure they're good food choices. Also, if you have more muscle now, you are probably needing MORE calories, not fewer. You don't want to lose your newly acquired muscle because your body thinks you're starving. Edited March 31, 2010 by taysteewonderbunny

I did better today, I think. I didn't count calories but I'm pretty sure I got around 1600-1700. I had yogurt with 1/4 cup of granola, half of a mini-bacon/mushroom/cheese omelette and some hash browns, 6 pieces of shrimp tempura sushi(they were small) and I just ate 1/2 cup of pasta with meat sauce and I'm gonna drink a protein shake an hour before I go to bed(gotta have my protein). Water intake was good, got two liters in today so far. It's hard because sometimes I feel like I'm going backwards because at first I cut my calories to lose weight and I did, but now I need to eat more to continue to lose weight. You and Torn are right, it's the muscle. Everyone keep up the good work. Edited April 1, 2010 by KatRN05
Destroit Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 (edited) Am going to bench press boulders when I get home from work . I love weight training because it makes your body so super efficient that you don't really need to do all the girly wasteful dieting bullshit-shenanigans. Just burn a few hundred calories then weight train alternating muscles daily until it feels like your body is going to tear itself apart at the joints and you don't need to worry about eating under 1,600 calories. Don't get me wrong...I eat HEALTHY shit, I just haven't bothered doing trivially wasteful stuff such as counting calories since I was in high school. Counting calories didn't work for me then and it's not going to work now that I realize it's completely unnecessary. KatRN05 Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 I just got home from the gym. I've been trying to build up my endurance so I've been running/walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes. I lifted weights as well.
KatRN05 Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Lost 5.5lbs in the last week. I've been eating more so I think that's helped. I went to the gym last week three times, ran on the treadmill for 30 minutes and lifted weights. I missed KM class all last week. I went back last night then went to the gym this morning and ran on the treadmill and lifted. KM class again tonight and fight conditioning tomorrow. If I'm not too sore, I'll probably go to the gym early tomorrow morning as well. Hope everyone is having a great week.
hunhee Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 I've completed my week 7 at the gym/walking every day, and keeping my foods under control. My total loss count for the seven weeks is 15lbs. w00h00!!!! I'm really trying to stay focused, but sometimes, it's very very hard! Thanks to hard workers like KatRN05, who keep me motivated to do what I know I should be doing.

torn asunder Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 I have my own gym now and may let a peep or two use it. Ive been eating only health now. Im eating veggies, fruit, rice cakes, yogurt and cotttage cheese. not to rain on your parade at all, but if that's all you're eating, it's not really all that healthy. you don't seem to have much fat in your diet, nor complex carbs, nor protein. fat is important (especially for men) due to it's effect on testosterone levels in the body. if you don't get enough protein, you'll lose muscle tissue, which will decrease your overall metabolism, and complex carbs, like cold-rolled/steel-cut oatmeal, don't spike insulin levels the way fruits/simple sugars do. what's your overall diet like? (below is a quote regarding dietary fat & T-levels, just fyi) linky! Previous studies have demonstrated that steroid hormone concentrations are subject to dietary regulation (2, 4, 24). Individuals consuming a diet containing ~20% fat compared with a diet containing ~40% fat (7, 9, 13, 25) have significantly lower concentrations of T. Also, replacment of dietary carbohydrate with protein has been shown to decrease T concentrations (2). These studies indicate that the energy supplied by the different macronutrients has a significant influence on T concentrations. Raben et al. (24) reported a significant decrease in resting T concentrations and an attenuation in the exercise-induced increase in T in male endurance athletes who switched from a meat-rich diet to a lacto-ovo vegetarian diet. Interestingly, both diets contained equal amounts of energy derived from protein, carbohydrate, and fat, indicating that the supply of energy from the different macronutrients was not responsible for the effect on T and that the composition of carbohydrate, protein, and fat may influence T concentrations. Thus both the amount and composition of the energy-providing macronutrients may modify T concentrations.

I haven't done much the last three days because I have been working. I'm gonna try to get to the gym today. Not feeling super motivated at the moment because I'm tired.

KatRN05 Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 I wish there was someone I could go running with. I hate going by myself. I need someone to keep me motivated.
Ice Queen (1) Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Wow, you guys are all doing a great job! It's just as hard to start a new, good habit as it is to stop an old, bad habit. I need to check in here regularly and let you guys motivate me. I've been being lazy. My normal activity level seems to be adequate for me to maintain a fairly consistent weight, without having to be strict on my eating habits. I can get away with it, but it doesn't mean I am in shape, or healthy, and frankly, I can do better. Thanks all for sharing your stories!
hunhee Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 I wish there was someone I could go running with. I hate going by myself. I need someone to keep me motivated. Yeah, I wish you didn't live so darned far away. *sniffles* I would go with you!

torn asunder Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 i've stalled - still within 1-2# of 200#, for the last month, maybe a bit more. part of it is that i'm getting busier & haven't had time to run much, though i'm still lifting. i need to get back to running 4-5 times a week, if i want to lose another 10-20#! lifting in about 30 min., then out for a run. i'm pretty tired, as today is the first day i've worked since i lost my job, but i have to do it anyway - can't give up just 'cuz i'm workin' some...
