Um. That's the reading fee. The subscription is free. I've had one for two years and they've never made me pay a dime. Some other contests are free, but this is a special event. The prize money is higher and the submissions are more numerous. It makes for a humongous heap of sometimes not so special literature to dig through, so I don't blame them. Most legit contests do have a fee; $20 is typical and, I think, worth the venture.

I am most definately not worthy of sending 20 dolla to these readers. I cower at the thought of even attempting to do so, for I am nothing but a lowly writer whose pride in her work could never amount to a full twenty dollars.

Sadly, I had to withdrawal my submission. I probably revised it over thirty times before I sent it in, but with over 9,000 words and my still being in the learning process, I found a bunch of structural errors after submitting it which drove me crazy.

I'm not currently employed either, but I'm working on a novel. I have no worthwhile short fiction to send into Narrative so I'll have to try sending something at a later date. I'll probably give my previous story a few more revision sweeps and post it here though.

Its kind of like Donnie Darko meets Animal Farm, but could've been written better and more on the side of practice.
