Is Mephisto's closed for good? That would be real sad....................

I didn't even get to go. And it's closer to me than most places.

I do not know this for absolute fact so I was just asking the question here.................

I've heard from 3 sources (one of their DJs, sound guy and bartender) that Mephistos is closed for good. John wants to pursue other things.

Always enjoyed going there as it reminded me of going to Medusa's in Chicago growing up.

Maybe somebody will buy it and keep it going, but with this economy that seems unlikely and I haven't heard any plans as to it's future. Heh, if I had the money...

Let's turn it into a bachelor pad!

It looks that way, according to my friend who's a cage dancer there...

Yeah from what I've heard too. Poe says that if his brother Andrew doesn't take it over (which is possible, especially if his dad pushes him toward that direction) then it's gone for good. Until I hear officially what he wants to do I'm going to hold off on doing anything.

My other worry is that even if Andrew takes it over that he will end the goth/alternative nights and make it the corner blues bar he always wanted = same affect.

I've had some excellent times there as have many of my friends and it's been my home off and on for just over the past five years since Gleek started the goth night there on Sundays in October of 2003. Hell I was there the last Friday it was open (after the holidays) and the first floor was packed (granted it was the only floor open but there was a good 30 people in the bar). Most were regulars but there was one new guy I met who said what everyone else says "I love the place, the layout is great" which it is. The scene has lost a precious gem and now there is nothing to do but City Club on the weekend in the Detroit area and absolutely nothing for those who know what goth music (the true original form, not the modern accepted version) actually is and want to hear it.

I have heard that John would be willing to sell the building for around $300,000 but that was a few years ago and now that it's closed it may drop. However he doesn't own it, his dad does, so it depends on what Doc Z wants. I do not know if that includes the three liquer licenses (one for each floor for each bar). However in this economy... good luck. Maybe I'll take over the webpage and put up a memorial with all the photos, past fliers, and other crap I have.

By the way someone should really take it out of rotation in the calender now.

If only the SPAG folks had the money;they've mentioned in the past how'd they wanted their own bar.
