Dirtier than CC could ever be and we wouldn't have had it any other way! Once, Ralph's old band dubbed The Lab "the next CBGB's" which was very sweet of 'em. Lotta memories as bartender, bouncer,dj, and promoter...

Where the goths and deathrockers came to get their fix that CC was denying them. Where the punkers and hardcore-types came for the cheap PBR's,scat videos, and bands that Lacy brought in. Where SPAG was born and thus everything rock n' roll was allowed to run loose about the place. Where Deadcat and DeadGrrl first paired up(thanks to SPAG). Where the Jager flowed freely for the Lab Rats after 2.

Who caught Fear's gig at The Lab years ago? Place was really packed and I mean really packed. Kick-ass show down to the Lacy/Lee Ving brawl ant the end;like something outta Suburbia. That night would be talked about for a couple of years after.

Who else was a regular? And where is Becca?

Im probably one of the only people my age that enjoyed the Lab. I saw a few cool shows down there and its where I learned how to DJ. The place was trashy and should have been shut down before it finally was, but it added to its charm.

I went to the Lab once ... it was great.

I wasn't a regular, but I enjoyed going there from time to time. I particularly liked the variety of music I would hear at the Lab. Deathrock, apocalyptic folk, old punk--great stuff.

I went to my first fetish show at the lab. Experienced my first "beating". Was an absolute mess, left with cuts and bruises. It was quite the memory. The girl was half my size and totally owned me. It's when I first realized I was into that kind of stuff.

I have a fucked up story. i think it was 1999 and i went to see Marilyn Manson at the State Theater. Timing was perfect cause I headed to the Lab to see Apoptygma Berzerk. Great show but at the end of the night I found my Truck was stolen from the parking lot. So it was a good and bad day.

And where is Becca?

That is a good question. I was thinking about her and little Logan the other day. I wonder how they are doing. *goes to check myspace*

Man, I loved that fkn place! I was there more in that dive's first 18 months than I've been at City in the last 15 years, easily. Sooooo many cool nights - Switchblade Symphony's last Detroit show in July '99; must've been about 120 degrees in there that night. Assemblage23/Back And To The Left bringing the awesome...seeing Electric Hellfire Club get blown off the stage yet again, lol...SPOCK/Backspace doing what was one of the most fun gigs ever...just going down there to dance after work so many times...if I had the $$$, I'd open a club just like it (musically, that is!).

Probably busy with motherhood and all. Think she was the only then-current Lab Rat on this board. Last time I'd seen her and her man was at The Lab when I put together the Detroit part of the Psychobilly Midwest March Meet back in '06.

Depended on what night it was. Thursdays SPAG was in the upstairs;played the best in rock n' roll - punk,70s glam,80s new wave,rockabilly,garage,70s hard rock,80s hardcore...

I remember Brian Necro played deathrock/realgoth on Saturdays back in '98 then Adam Cadaver and Brian The Brain did the same couple of years later. Used to see goths and deathrockers there whom I'd never seen at CC.

I should probably dig up some Lab pics I have here and there. :wink

I only made a SPAG night once...but it was the Sisters of Mercy afterparty in Sept. 98. It was so over-the-top kickass that I figured they could never top it, so I never went back. :)

I fondly remember Brian Necro. :yes

I remember being forced to help set that place up before it opened, when I worked at CC.

Always hated that place, with an undying passion.

Far as I know, he was the only dj playing Jacquy Bitch. Let him use a drawing of mine to advertise the Detroit goth zine he was doing back then. What was the name...?

And where is Becca?

I see her pretty often from time to time. In fact, I ran into her last night at city  She pops in there with her bf on friday nights every so often.

Well, at least in 1997 he was doing The Dark Page newsletter. About the same time there was also Industrial City Gothic News, but that was run by other people I think.

It was a small-sized mag he'd put out for several issues. Got 2 of 'em stashed away somwhere...what was the name...? Might've been Necro Zine but can't be sure. One ish had an interview with Caroline and Kelly when they were operating the 13th Hour shop. Was also an interview in there with the Carpe Mortem founders(before they'd opened the Lab).

Miss my RUMBLE! nights there.

Lab is where I saw a guy doing ti chi on the dance floor...those were his dance moves...I had to stiffle a giggle all night

What? Tai chi rocks! Did he call out all four corners? Wish I could have been there. *jealous*

That sounds about right. I can't find all my old zines at the moment, but I think you are right. That was probably after The Dark Page. If it's really bugging you I could ask him. Heh heh!

one of the Noir Shows where they were rolling around in broken glass, and a "fire Breather" singed more than he was supposed to. LOL
