StormKnight (1) Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 One other movie I would like to present. "The Yakuza," with Robert Mitchum. (1974) An excellent movie even today.
TomCat Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 HEAT was a good one as well Yeah Phee, I enjoyed Heat. I almost forgot about Gorky Park. Those Crazy Reds have gangs too...
StormKnight (1) Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Just re-watched "The Yakuza" with Robert Mitchum, Takakura Ken, directed by Sydney Pollack. I remember why it was such a cool gangster movie when I saw it.
Troy Spiral (13) Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Just saw "The Departed" it was quite good. Martin Scorsese, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin, Jack Nicholson. Although other than the fact that there is a lot of deaths (seems too obvious) I'm not quite sure why its called "The Departed".
Troy Spiral (13) Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Oh hell forgot a bunch: A Clockwork Orange L. A. Confidential The Killer The Usual Suspects Resivouar Dogs The Maltese Falcon Sin City Yojimbo Seven Samurai and very recently: Slumdog Millionare Gran Torino
Scary Guy Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Things to do in Denver when you're Dead Ocean's 11 Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Cool World The Gangs of New York (oldschool gangs but it counts) Hackers / Sneakers (gangs of hackers) Four Brothers Boondock Saints The Crow (counts) and a bunch of others that were previously listed. Although just about any movie can have a gang in it. However not any movie can be a gang movie where the focal point is around the gang itself rather than them being the antagonists.
Beetle Beercrash Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Martin Scorsese is one of my favorite directors and "Goodfellas" is one of my favorite movies of all time, gangster or non-. Here's one of my favorite scenes...don't watch it at work unless you have a really cool boss cuz it's pretty violent and has lots of swears: Does detroitgothic.net support video embedding?
Saint Germain Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 "The Third Mann" 1948 Gangster movie in the postwar Vienna with Orson Welles
Scary Guy Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Oh I almost forgot "8 heads in a duffel bag" And any biker and car gang movies although they're not really "gangster" movies.
Invictus Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 White Heat, The Yakuza Papers, Sonatine, Boiling Point, A better tomorrow. I guess Hard Boiled would count. Oh, Infernal Affairs, the movie The Departed was based on.
Troy Spiral (13) Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 "The Third Mann" 1948Gangster movie in the postwar Vienna with Orson Welles Good movie. I went out of my way to see it back in the day. Hard for me to recommend to a modern ADD audience. Wide critical acclaim that's for sure.
