I don't see much of this anymore. You know, you can accidently bring a whole host of pests in your home that are hard to get rid of so be careful...This is how I found my goddess table. It has 3 tiers (get it? tripple goddess) and three legs and is round and solid oak.

I use it in ritual.

Cleaned it good first with murphys oil soap.

Oh and I found a good lamp once too.

There is a guy who drives around my hood every friday going through the trash.

Prob resells things on ebay.

I don't really have a problem with someone going through my trash if they don't leave a mess.

But cutting up forms and stuff with your info on it is a must anyway...shredders.

I do it all the time...otherwise I wouldn't have anything in my room at all...I have even found working laptops and working TVs

Dumpster diving is all about timing, timing, and timing. For example, I managed to know of a lab shutting down, and because of the way they were funded, all the glassware had to be thrown away. The day the stuff was headed towards the dumpster, I "escorted" the person throwing the stuff out. After leaving it out in the dumpster, oh surprise, I was able to dive for the stuff and carry out lots of glasware. Those who have been to my place have seen the large amount of glassware I keep around the house. And most of the stuff I was able to get to my old LARP group for props.

Got to love to dive on occasion.

i once got 2 old wooden trunks out of the trash. we had one looked at and its over 100 years old and in wonderfull shape.

I've gotten computer desks that just needed a few screws and a few new "L" brackets, a few computer monitors, several desktop computers, web cams, entertainment centers, that were just a bit wobbly, computer chairs, dining room chairs, what else.... lots of awesome books and stuffed animals... some clothes (some with the tags still on them -- must be nice to be able to just throw out your spoiled brats designer clothing cuz they just don't like them-- uh... great pieces of carpets, area rugs (sprinkle Epsom salt on it, let sit for a min, sweep off with a hand broom, and it brightens it up a bit) and other remedies will get other stains out without ruining the rug... my grandmother found an area rug once, it was 50 years old, from Thailand and only had one stain on it... where the previous owner's pet cat has passed away and left a urine stain on the rug.... which you can get out with various remedies... so yeah, i've found quite a bit.... lol

My buddy Dave got a drum kit from some apartment bldg where a tenant had just gotten evicted.

He doesn't have it anymore, though - it was a total piece of shit.

Not since having bedbugs, and knowing that people throw out stuff with bedbugs. I'm kind of OCD that my furniture and home decor stuff either has to be new, or handed down from a close friend or family member. I even get weirded out by the idea of buying furniture from a thrift shop or antique shop.

As for kitchen stuff, maybe, if it was something that didn't have any little nooks and crevices that pests could get into.

Haven't done much lately, but I've gotten quite a bit of good stuff dumpster diving and garbage picking. Radio Shack is a fabulous target.

If you leave it covered in plastic for a year it should kill them. Bedbug eggs can take up to 30 days to hatch, then the adults can live for up to a year without feeding. They don't like cold, but they do have ways of 'hibernating'. Believe me, I've done lots of research on this.

I know it's a rare chance of picking them up again, but it's just not one I'm willing to take.

I never did any dumpster diving but every now and then some curb side shopping took place.

I could never bring myself to hop into a dumpster full of trash (i.e. rotten food/maggots ect.).

the only time I have done this was when I was walking in my friends neighborhood and there was a dresser that had really cool looking knobs. So I split the knobs with my buddy. But for the most part like tigerlilly I don't trust that stuff to be clean lol

My guy and I used to dumpster dive at Goodwill, Staples, and Big lots. We got alot of Gold from there. You would not beleive how much Goodwill throws out. We found an electric blanket still in package with a $39.99 price tag on it. along with a cute blanket, clothes and knick knacks. Outside of Big Lots, one day, we found 9 bottles of perfectly healthy (and delicious) Maple Syrup. Where someone broke a bottle, and instead of cleaning them off, they just threw them out.

I miss Diving, but we moved to the middle of nowhere, and since i dont have a license/car it is impossible.

If anyone needs a Diving Partner, i'm all open!! hehe
