Personally I think book burning was/is an atrosity. Along time ago people were kept down with lack of knowlege and now people take it for granted. I love reading spiritual books because I am learning so many things that were not allowed to be available in a basically christian society before.

However, the publishers these days are to greedy and will print almost anything.

And: I know a guy who writes and is a phsicologist and yes, he bores me to tears. But he is smart. I do not like mainstream stuff and video games and comics are fun but....I learn allot from books and love Harry potter and the effect it has had on the young and their imaginations and exceptance of magick.

So there you have it.

I hate books. what a waste of time.  in 2005 I see no need for books.  I didn't like being forced to read them in college so why would I like them now?  Yes some books are entertaining but I can get that same entertainment watching Nick at Nite or TV Land, they have family ties with Michael j Fox.    One episode was Skippy handleman and mallory (justine bateman) were locked in the basement and they told eachother their deep feelings.  Comic books RULE!  Especially DC.  Comic books are so much more worthwhile than regular books.  It would be awesome if one day all the books of the world got burned. 

anyway I especially hate philosophy books.  So yeah, not all books are the same level of suck. 

here is my list of approved authors.  I wouldn't choose to read them but if you have to, you might as well. 

John Mcwhorter, Thomas Sowell, Milton Friedman, Alfred Marshal, phillip k dick, william gibson

  remember, philosophy books suck the most.  Why would I pay money to read about some idiot reach a conclusion I could have on my own?

I'm with you there. I firmly believe that learning/thinking is an undervalued and underappreciated privilege. Even if a book is dense and difficult and the conclusions are flawed, there's something to be said for being exposed to it and making an informed opinion.

I'm the opposite of a lot of people in that I prefer non-fiction to fiction. I have three bookshelves filled with mostly philosophy texts, psychology research anthologies and primatology books. I tend to buy them faster than I can read them, but someday I'll finish 'em all

I like some mainstream stuff, and watch a lot of really bad television and movies for the sole purpose of making fun of them, but I also like the chance to exercise my mind and read challenging material...

Actually I don't have a shaved head right now. And my grandfather escaped from a concentration camp. I also lost an aunt and uncle I never got to meet in world war two in polska.

I tend not to be into fiction like i once was. Most of what i read nowadays is nonfiction. I've slowly switched from being almost totally concerned with fiction to now preferring nonfiction. If im going to feed my brain something i tend to want it to be more "educational" than "entertaining" as such. I have "fun" learning. You can learn from fiction, but you tend to get more enlightenment-per-page from nonfiction than fiction regardless if its difficult to get through or not. I've been working at it so long i now often prefer the difficulty. Work them brain cells.

Fiction tends to teach via spoonfeeding, sometimes i prefer it, but its less and less the case as time passes.
