Personnally prefer a HANDwritting note pad, but my sig other uses his phone...it even has a screen/pen and NOTEPAD feature!

oh and an alarm clock, I use my phone in case the electricity goes off.

Phone book...(internet) Many aspects of the Library... (internet for the most part.) Soon even paper media as a whole will be irrelevant (to developed nations) once a Kindle-like device becomes more affordable... Or all this tech finally merges into one computer/phone/book/gaming device like has been long predicted and is well on its way.

Hard copy magazines and newspapers are quite useless, as well.

As are most retail stores.

I also use the internet more than my telephone, for communicating.

I still have a fair amount of use for paper media since the computer, no matter how I'm sitting, is still several levels of magnitude less comfortable to read at/with than a book/magazine is. Also, magazines in particular help me "stay focused" and not get distracted to other subjects so easily the way internet articles seem to.

Using a Palm (and as soon as the appropriate software comes out for iPod Touch,) has eliminated the need for me to carry around a half a dozen books on rounds, having references to access at a moments notice, and even some record keeping. I can lock the device so that data can't be accessed if it is lost, which beats losing papers with the same data somewhere in the hospital. I also keep it on my person where I do a "pat check," where I pat myself down to make sure I have certain things on me. (wallet, phone, PDA, keys, meds.)

While I have many texts and references on .pdf and other document files, I can't give up my books completely. Anyone who has been to my place has seen the 6 bookshelves loaded with books of various sorts. Somehow, after reading Fahrenheit 451, it just seems terrifying not to have a real book in hand.

It appears that I am a bit of a luddite. I prefer my news on newspaper, and rarely shop online. Of course, I maintained a newspaper route for fifteen years. See, that's one thing that I worry about. Kindles cost money, while a day old newspaper can be found anywhere.

I once read (in best of Craigslist, how ironic) that the weather report for the literate homeless was the most important piece of news in a newspaper.

Of course, I suppose with technology, we ought to focus on eliminating homelessness, and let day old newspapers take care of themselves...

Television. I actually didn't own one from summer 07 until just last month. I haven't used it once since I got it (for free from family) and rarely used the one I owned the 3 years from 04-07. I only took this one in case I get a Wii.

I don't have an alarm clock anymore. Use my cell.

Don't get a newspaper, read online.

But I prefer real books. I do read a lot online, on Gutenberg, but I will always prefer having a real book in hand. I love the smell of books...nothing like walking into a library, especially in the deep stacks. Mmmm....

I love STUFF, so I still have a lot of stuff I don't necessarily really need, but hey - I like stuff.

true, it is better also to print out a story and go read it on the couch when your back hurts. No waiting at the library...

It hinders tho to. I know someone illiterate who uses cd's...no need to read these days I guess for some people.

oh and I think my puter will talk to me so I don't have to read...well, I know it will cause I messed with my setting once, it drove me nuts...had to turn that shit off.

Checks... I use my debit card for shopping and pay almost all of my bills online or have auto withdrawal.

Note pads, planner, and suchlike items my horrific memory used to require me to tote around. Keep it all on my Treo now.

Me too... for whatever reason it's hard for me to read anything of any length online. And reading manga online gives me major eyestrain.
