sinnaminn Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Has anyone watched this show intervention on A&E? I have a couple of times, anyway last nights show caught my attention..This guy Travis from the band Days of the new was one of the people they were trying to help.Apparently he's been addicted to meth for a while.I usually find myself feeling quite a bit of sympathy for people in this situation. With this guy though I felt like he had what so many others dream of ,he was a "rockstar"and he just threw it all away. I know being famous and rich doesn't solve all your problems but damn you would think at some point during even a fleeting moment of sobriety he would take a hard look in the mirror and realize he had it better than most. And then make an effort to save his self.Well now he has a baby daughter and a messed up little house and no money to speak of. He ended up going into the rehab the show and his family offered him and I thought, there maybe hope for this guy yet. However a foot note at the end of the show stated he walked out of rehab and he was relapsing on and off! .He signed a multi million dollar record deal at 16!!!!!!Had a #1 hit single at 19, I believe! Now at 25 he has pissed away almost everything including his life.I guess maybe I'm being harsh but I don't feel very sorry for him!
pomba gira Posted May 26, 2005 Posted May 26, 2005 Not casting judgment on anyone's viewing preferences but... I detest shows like that. To me they're just turning people's personal tragedies & pain into entertainment... which I feel is creepy at the very least. I was in a situation for a while where I was forced to watch the entire WDIV (channel 4 Detroit) afternoon lineup of "talk shows" on a daily basis... it was sickening. I felt dirty every day just from watching those shows. Not to mention how sad it is that so many people's lives are so out of control that they feel the only solution is being humiliated on national TV... I mean how do you arrive at that conclusion? I just don't get it at all. Sorry for the rant... again no judgment on anyone, I'm certainly down with some forms of entertainment that others prolly find unacceptable... that post just brought that whole period back to me is all. Ugh, I'm all shuddery just thinking about some of the stuff I saw on those shows.
