OK, so I KNOW we literally just had this thread a few months ago, but I suppose there's no point in drdging it up now

Tiffany was so chessy to begin with, almost anything would be an improvement, (and Birthday Massacre is avery talented group to boot)

but being an 80s child I often wish they'd leave those older songs alone.

Here's a classic. The Leonard Cohen version is fantastic, but the Jeff Buckley one is the stuff of legends.

Now with lyrics!

Over the Rainbow. Yes THAT over the rainbow cover by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole

It's even better when he combines it with What A Wonderful World but I feel the power of the song increases so much with the Hawaiian imagery, we'll have to settle for this

A couple more.

I don't even like Fiona Apple, and I'm usually very protective of the Beatles but I've always been a sucker for when people slow down songs.

(except Frente's Bizarre Love Triangle--that fell under the category Don't fuck with my favorite 80s tunes)

Well here it is

One of my favorite covers

Tori Amos exposing how sadistic Eminem is

(Ignore the video- it has nothing to do with anything)

97 Bonnie and Clyde

Shoot me, but I actually really like this remix of Brian Adams:

Remakes... More popularly known as "covers". And yeah... there are already a few threads here dedicated to the subject. A few seconds spent searching would have brought them up. I guess that's too much to ask for these days.

Always been partial to this one, originally written by June Carter, and made famous by Johnny Cash. This clip is from the movie, "Roadie." I couldn't find the 45 version (without the movie dialogue) on YouTube.

Yeah... I thought this thread looked familiar... wasn't it "Covers that are better than the original"?

Anyway...

"Sundown" by Elwood, original by Gordon Lightfoot

Hmmm..this is a new one on me! I'm a huge Gordon Lightfoot fan, and this is an interesting crossover cover.

It's ok. You can say it sucks. She's an African American juggalette with swastika tattoos.

There's nothing you can say that she hasn't already heard. She's hardcore like that.

Although not nearly as hardcore as homie Ben Folds. He came up from the mean suburban streets and he aint takin shit from nobody

In case you don't know the bitch-ass original

I really, really wish I could put that on my resume. But maybe they'll put it on my gravestone.

I don't think it sucks. I think it's interesting. Not necessarily to my musical taste, but any cover that exposes an artist to people who are into another genre of music (and otherwise may have never been exposed) has value. :)

Thank you Jynxxie. It annoys me when someone says "that sucks" about any music that's not in their favored genre. You don't have to LIKE it... but if you're truly a music lover, you should be able to APPRECIATE good or just interesting/different music even if it's not something you want on your iPod. And for the record, that's how I read your comment... that you found it interesting but not something you'd listen to all the time.
