It's not determined by clothing size but by measurements... I usually go by waist size, because that is where you want themost compression. Your bust and hips can have more of a gap than at the waist and it actually looks sexy that way. I usually order mine 6"-8" smaller thanmy waist, but I've been lacing for awhile and have squishy ribs.

I would say if you've never worn a real corset before go with 4" less than your waist. That should be comfortable for almost anyone.
