KatRN05 Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Does anyone work out there? I just drove past their location and I'm thinking about signing up for their kickboxing classes.
Raev Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Yes, I've trained there. GREAT place, I HIGHLY recommend it! Do their Krav Maga instead of kickboxing, imo.
KatRN05 Posted October 1, 2009 Author Posted October 1, 2009 (edited) I've been debating between the two. I've heard Krav Maga is pretty intense. Edited October 1, 2009 by KatRN05
Raev Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 It is pretty intense but HIGHLY rewarding. I've done some of the Krav there.
Engine Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Where kickboxing will get you some great cardio, etc Krav will give you amazing cardio and also teach you how to disable someone probably twice your size. Just don't expect to be able to use anything you learn in Krav in any competitive combat sport as most of the techniques you'll learn are supposed to completely incapacitate/kill your opponent as efficiently as possible. Furthermore, expect to get hit hard and a lot. From what I hear being female doesn't make the instructors there hit you any less hard. Good luck, though, I've heard nothing but good about that place.
Raev Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 (edited) They are a *little* easier on the women. Notice the emphasis on little. As the classes progress, they will still jar and rattle them. Barry down there is a beast. Edited October 1, 2009 by Raev
d:konstruct Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 My wife and I checked it out a while back. We are planning on signing up over the next few months. They do quality training there. I highly recommend it
KatRN05 Posted October 5, 2009 Author Posted October 5, 2009 I did end up signing up. I start tonight at 6pm.
KatRN05 Posted November 19, 2009 Author Posted November 19, 2009 (edited) So, how is it? I'm glad I took Raev and Engine's advice and signed up. The warm-ups are intense. The instructors show us the defense techniques and then we practice with a partner or group. I absolutely love it. Edited November 19, 2009 by KatRN05

KatRN05 Posted December 22, 2009 Author Posted December 22, 2009 If you are interested in Krav Maga, there is another place in Troy called Krav Maga Detroit. I've never been there but have heard awesome things about it.
