Simon Bar Sinister Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 just came here from io9, where I saw this: http://io9.com/5368280/a-tragic-video-history-of-male-nudity-in-science-fiction-[nsfw]?skyline=true&s=x ...and it made me wonder about people's attitudes toward it in general.
phee Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Movies in general? There is some in Forgetting Sarah Marshell
darknight1 Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Forgetting Sarah Marshall scared the living hell out of me.
GothicRavenGoddess (3) Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 I have a feeling that some guys wouldn't see a movie if full frontal were present. (that thought's utterly ridiculous to me, considering they have the same anatomy... and its not like they are being turned on by it..) ugh anyways... nudity doesn't bother me at all....
Slogo Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 If a mod deletes this I'll understand but who could forget this..... From the simpsons movie
the eternal Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 I think we can handle it as viewers, but I think since the writers and directors of most sci-fi is male, the lack of normal male nudity in a movie says more about who's making the films than who's watching them.
Fidget(+) Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Male/Female nudity doesn't bother me. lol bring it on.
taysteewonderbunny Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Are you crazy? Do you remember the "Watchmen" thread? Most of the complainers about the nudity were female (or so I remember it as such). I think there is supposed to be some thing in our culture where women aren't supposed to be visually stimulated. Naked manness is supposed to be "threatening" instead of erotic or something. It's supposed to be words and contexts that arouse us, so books and informational tv has told me. But to me, that's a load of crap. Sure, maybe a picture by itself has only limited effect, but if it comes with a story, it's typically not the story that I'm most engaged in at the moment. I like the nakee men. I wish we could stop getting so freaked out by nudity as a whole. Sure, not all nudity is sexy. Some is purely exposition or symbolism in the context of a film or show, but that should be allowable without too much hooplah. Even if it is just gratuitous, I don't really see the harm. We are so darn Puritanical still. It bothers me.
