The Lady Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 eZBoard gets hacked I'm a mod on a board that has been housed on eZBoard for five years today. We've experienced a 90% data loss. It's difficult to think about what we've lost, not in a small way because... "it's just a message board" ...but it wasn't. It was five years' worth of an exchange of support, joviality, information, and help between our over six thousand members. We lost both posts and local accounts. We lost articles, resources, conversations and memorials. We've also lost a lot of our sense of community. It feels very much like electronic rape. Anyone else get touched by this?
torn asunder Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 yep - biker board i was on lost around around 100 pages of older posts due to a hacker... what's gone is gone, just stay active & rebuild - all you can do... =)
The Lady Posted June 7, 2005 Author Posted June 7, 2005 The owners' stance at the moment is that if we don't get at least a 50% restoral, we're moving. She's wanted to move for a while, but hasn't because of the sheer amount of posts that would need to be archived/moved. Ugh.
Scary Guy Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 so you move and put a link to the old forum in lockdown mode. I won't use EZ for many reasons. With things like PHPBB why bother with anything else?
Dollardave Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 Why would someone hack ezboards thats alot of peoples social interactions all I gotta say is whoever did it that it was a rotten thing to do.
Scary Guy Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 Because they can, and the fact that knowledge is power.

With things like PHPBB why bother with anything else? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's very likely that this is what we will end up doing. So far, we've been entirely member supported, so it depends on what kind of money we can raise to buy addtional server space and bandwidth. Our board sees some *heavy* traffic. I'm sure we can raise enough right now, half of our membership is chomping at the bit to do SOMEthing. Those that we haven't lost, anyway. Because they can, and the fact that knowledge is power. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> EZ said that whoever did this had proprietary information. So it was either an inside job, or at least assisted by an insider. It was definatly an attack aimed at bringing down EZ, with something like nine thousand Gold boards and who knows how many free boards as the innocent civilians. Bastards.
DarkChylde Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 Holy fuck, im glad we did move to something better now, I always thought ezboard sux anyway :sleeping
