You forgot this part

"Manhattan prosecutors dropped weapons charges in July after running into problems proving their case."

The DA couldn't prove their case on the weapons charge...no case means he is legally innocent on that charge.

As for the gun in the briefcase.....I will go with "old habits die hard". Further thought would ahve been nice, but lots of us have grabbed things that we didn't need, out of habit.

As for this current event....I am gonna go ahead and say it was a setup. With how amazing and sky-rocketing his career has been in the past few years, Burglary doesn't fit at all.
