Bath salts Vs. Incense

I've been looking for a better way to relax-- I take baths late at night and usually with additives like incense or candles and such.

But lately I've been alot more tense and not much is working for me. Does anyone have any good relaxation techs they could share? (Bath-wise, or something water-related)

Do you have the time to relax in the tub? The stuff works but I don't know many people that can plop down for a long enough time...

Tea is water related...you just drink it and you can do that on the run if you must. Don't get the store bought stuff unless you have to though...buy the leaves and such, whatever you need, and mix it up after a few runs. If you stay on the same brew for too long it starts to lose its "thing"...but that may just be me.

Also, you can try smudge. It is not water related, although some feel the need to bathe after, but it does help and is not "incense". It can also be cheap because you use sage, cedar, or sweetgrass and those don't need to be bought.

If you want to stick with the bath salts are ok but there are natural soaps on the market that I believe work better...but everyone is different. They don't have the chemicals in them that my cigarettes do and despite their small custom market they go for a very cheap price...although you can't buy a super-mega pack with a special mail in rebate. Soaps are also nice because you don't need to do the whole tub thing...you can just wash your hands or scrub in the shower...clean and soothed.

All that being said something as small as the right temperature in the bath or shower can do the trick. And for a final not on bath salt...that shit does a number on your tub when it comes time to clean it. You can soothe yourself for a week and then wreck it all by scrubbing the living hell out of your back!

Happy hunting...and get acupuncture!

I recommend a nice Jill Tracy CD or some VNV Nation during the bath. Makes me a happy little camper.

Music is good, and no, I don't need to use incense... I just honestly don't know of much I could use. Just short of paying out of my ass for a spa treatment or massage therapy, I dunno of what'll work.

But herbs and things? I'll go look that up. :) Thanks.

I like Calgon Lavender Vanilla bath beads. They smell absolutely lovely, and they make the bathwater a nice & gothy dark purple. I usually pour a glass of wine, throw on some Dan Gibson ambient music, light a few candles (and sometimes, a stick of Nag Champa), and it's all good.

Try adding some lavender to your bath water. I know a lot of aromatherapists that swear by it for relaxation.

You could also try massage if you are willing to fork over the cash for it. Personally, I highly recommend Thai Massage. It focuses a lot on the Sen lines (energy lines, similar to Chinese Meridians) and relieving any blockages that may be disrupting the flow of prana (life energy). Trust me, this really works. Monks in Thailand have been doing it for over 2000 years.

I really like that idea.

I know a myomassologist who gives lavender bath salts to all his clients for the highly recommended detox bath post-session. (Massage can release chemicals stored in muscle tissue into the bloodstream; supposedly hot baths with bath salts help expurgate those toxins. Anent the validity of such claims, I have no fucking idea: I just do what I'm told.)

...& light incense & candles...

...really, baths don't calm me for shit...I barely fit in the damned tub...

.....I go for the incence, & if that don't do it...I find the hooka ritual (with tobacco kids, I ain't rich yet!) is very calming...

bath salts cause your skin absorbs it
