lullaby1031 Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Well, this weekend is going to be gorgous and we're going camping! Permitting our friend gets off of work early. I got our tent, cooler, & bug spray - I'm ready! We'll be crashing out near some lake I've never heard of "Little Fishing Lake" with some friends so it should be fun. I'll take some pics and share. So does anyone eles go camping or know of good sites/spots? I'm stoked!
Guest Game of Chance Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 there's about 150 of us going canoeing/camping in July...wow is it a good time...if anybody's interested...you're welcome to come...its friendly group...i'll get the website
Nienna Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 I rough camp all year round with the SCA. (Yes, even in winter sometimes) It's a Mideval recreationist society, and we have a great time! At first it was something I tolerated because I wanted to participate, but now I really enjoy the camping for itself too!
kellygrrrrrl Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 I love hardcore camp. Very eye opening..........makes you appreciate the modern technologies we have....also makes you realize that things were not always as they are. And things could easily go back to that too. Gotta keep those roots well planted.

I think I could handle longer if I had a pavilion tent or military barrak type tent. (My tax return this year will get me one too!) Mine is a dome tent, good because it dosn't leak and I can pitch it alone, but bad in soooo many other ways! *L*

I usually will buy one of those cheap tarps..(Blue plastic cheap crap) and fashion a roof tied to the trees surrounding. Just in case...

Just in case... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I do that too.. partly also to cut the sun, so it dosn't get as much of the oven effect during the day. I use long dowels in the ground and create a caonpy type extension on the front of the tent so I have shade and rain shelter and can still sit out and smoke and socialize though.. (I'm also usually camping in summer in 10+ yards of fabric and a corset.... so shade is important!)
Onyx Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 I've been camping a couple of times. :fear I was so miserable both times I swore never to do it again. Damn crickets so loud I couldn't sleep, wanted to go on a shooting spree and kill them all. Frogs in my tent. Freezing myself to death at 3 a.m. to find the single stinky bathroom in the place (or worse, the second time trying to squat and pee in the woods). I can't see the point in living like I'm homeless, on purpose, when I work my ass off every day to pay my bills and stay ahead a bit. :blink I don't *get* camping. Guess I only like nature in small, controlled doses.

SomeDanGuy Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 I'd go camping more, but I don't really have the requisite gear. I enjoy it though, except I never sleep very well

Brenda Starrr Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 I won't camp unless the site has room service and a mini bar.
TomCat Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 What about good company, hot luvin', and back massages during thunderstorms??
Brenda Starrr Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Does this mean I get to sleep in your back yard when I come up?
saechalyn Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 I won't camp unless the site has room service and a mini bar. Hell yes. I second this. I am a proud 21st century American brat- I need a real bed and shower. Plus bugs for some reason LOVE me- the last time I slept outside I had plenty of bug spray and stopped counting after 70 bug bites. Disgusting!

Nerdcore Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 I love it ! I dont every year like I should but I love the outdoors :cheerful
The_Dark Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 If you want to keep the bugs off you duing a camping trip avoid the following products. Makeup, Soap, Perfume, Colonge, Deoderant and Shampoo. Why? They all have perfumes and such in them that attract bugs. You will notice that annoying guy that smells bad never gets bitten? Thats because he doesn't have all the bug attractants on. You can bathe, just don't use anything to wash other than water or an unscented soap. I don't camp that often as I have spinal problems that make sleeping on the ground torture. I do on the other hand live in the middle of the woods and spend a great amount of my spare time in the woods.

saechalyn Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 NOT possible No kidding! Makeup and perfume I can live without, but soap and shampoo??? HELL no. I wouldn't mind an unscented soap but I can't not wash my hair. Oh well guess I'm stayin indoors.
The_Dark Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 Yes you can. Washing your hair isn't actually good for it.
