Mean Salley Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 (edited) So about a week ago, some drunken neandertal bounced off of my car and took off from the scene of the accident. Then she bounced off of two other cars before she was arrested and thrown into the lockup. My car is de-fuckin-stroyed and of course the insurance companies are only willing to give me less than half of the market value on the car. Does anyone know if there are any places where they do the whole deal where they'll give you x amount of dollars if you can at least drive it in? If anyone knows someone selling something I'm all ears. I need something big enough to carry all of my drums for shows and what not. Edited January 22, 2010 by Mean Salley
Raev Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 No - but if you don't mind spending a few days doing it you can troll craigslist. I know a few used car dealers who do that to cherry pick cars to put on their lots. If you don't mind putting a little time into it, you can beat the dealers to a cherry.

Or maybe I can come by and take a lookee...
Mean Salley Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 How bad is it? Actual, specific damage. Pictures? Or maybe I can come by and take a lookee... It's totalled. The collision shop said it'll cost way more than what the insurance company will cash out. The frame is bent and the rear left shocks and struts are destroyed. (less than a year old mind you) The back window alone is at least 500. So because this rock-head was drunk, I'm screwed out of a car that I put over $2000.00 in repairs into in the last year.
Msterbeau Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Can I presume she didn't have insurance? What will your insurance give you for it? What are they using as a source for value? Perhaps you can demonstrate that it's worth more then what they feel it is because of all the repairs and overall condition? The main frame/unibody is the most critical thing to get right. You can go to the junkyard for a hatch, bumper and lights. WAY cheaper then getting from collision shop. I could probably find you someone to do that relatively inexpensively.

The value is $3100.00 They only want to give me $1300.00 I've talked to the adjuster on the phone and whe's pretty much doing her best to rob me. They're using some system called ccc values which my insurance guy had never even heard of. I guess they never consider repairs done to a vehicle. Her insurance company (Citizens) is not using NADA which I guess is what damn near every company uses to appraise a used car. Mind you she hit 3 people when she was drunk, so maybe her insurance toadies are trying to save as best as they can. Hey, don't insure innebriated fuck-faces, then you don't have to pay out the nose. creatureofthenyte Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 (edited) If I were you, I would hire a lawyer and sue the piss out of her. Marc, maybe you could sell him the Van of Doom? Edited January 22, 2010 by creatureofthenyte
Msterbeau Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 If I were you, I would hire a lawyer and sue the piss out of her. Marc, maybe you could sell him the Van of Doom? Don't sue her. get your insurance company to go after hers and recover the full value of the car. Maybe threaten to sue her to get her to pony up the difference between what insurance will pay and what it's worth. Personally, I think $3100 seem a little high for an Escort/Tracer of that vintage. It would have to be pristine and low mileage. Book values are sometimes a bit skewed high. Still.. The bitch should get shafted. Granted, she may be in jail for a while. But Sean shouldn't have to pay for her fuck up.
sglgothmom Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 there's a nice looking van down the road from where i live i just saw it today but if you really wanted to fix your car my mom used to work at a dealer ship and i can find out how much it would cost for them to fix it. they do a lot of stuff dirt cheap right now cause they need the business
