taysteewonderbunny Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 HI! My mom is cleaning out her basement. This means that she is sorting through the things she has accumulated for the 30 years she's lived in that home and has justified keeping just about everything (including two huge bags full of pine cones and a collection of 2-cup measuring cups--"I might need to measure something some day," she says. "Something your 4-cup measuring cup can't measure," I say?) unless it's mine or actually useful. Consequently, there is now an urgency to the disposal of the former habitats of my now deceased (YES, from natural causes--just what kind of an animal do you think I am?) once adorable, dwarf hamsters. I have two nearly identical wire cages (very easy to clean) and one larger plastic cage and a moderate collection of add-on tubes (not so easy to clean). Plus some bedding, plus a wheel. If you, yourself, do not need these items, I am looking for a classroom or small animal rescue to which I can donate them; your assistance in locating such is greatly appreciated (I lazy). I prefer to not have to drive very far to be rid of them. I also hope to be rid of them all at once. Thanks.
Eevee Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 I've been looking for a cage for when I get a hedgehog...but I can't have wire cages because their little feet can get stuck in between the wires.
Draco1958 Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Are any of the cages decent sized for a rat? We have need of a larger cage than what we have.
taysteewonderbunny Posted March 12, 2010 Author Posted March 12, 2010 Sorry for taking so long to respond. These cages are only appropriate for very small rodents, such as mice, dwarf hamsters, or gerbils (but maybe not gerbils because they chew so much). A hedgehog, I think, Eevee, would likely be most comfortable in a glass aquarium (provided you substitute an appropriate substrate for the water, of course); a rat would need a much larger cage than any of these, unless yours is a claustrophile, Draco. Anyhow, I've found a taker. I'm giving all the items to Charly of Charly's small animal rescue. Thanks!
