DJ Saint Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Picked this up today on iTunes after reading the following review in this weeks Real Detroit. Their debut cd is excellent and this EP proves very good as well. 800-Beloved Everything Purple Moodgadget Swept and swirled, smoothed and jangled with elegance — a moody beauty from a band that some would have a hard time believing hails from metro-Detroit. With an unavoidably perceived reverence for latter-'80s/early-'90s hybrids of dream-pop and shambling shoegaze, some may also find it hard to believe this record wasn’t made in, say, "1992." 800-Beloved is the brainchild of singer/guitarist/writer Sean Lynch, based in Milford. He has a passionate focus on aesthetic in a city known for scuffed punk and blues. The sounds, from the plentifully-pedaled guitars to the hollow-clattered driving drums to the sweet grinning chimes, are delicately and distinctively arranged and massaged by the engineering ear of Lynch. The theme combines perceptions of blue (water, surfing, the rush of waves) and red (desire, temptation) which, when mixed, form purple. Dreams are also a strong lyrical theme — which, with the sonorous reverb and surf-toned guitars, feels so right for a collection of mesmerizing melodies, shimmering tones and hovering lulls of feedback. This second LP departs from the previous Bouquet’s synth-strong fare and embraces an even more head-swimming, love-tinged splendor of close-leaning but wispy, spaced-out sonnets. — Jeff Milo Worth a Listen: "Surf's Up" & "1992"
pleasurekatzen Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Been following this band for about 3 years now, glad to see they're finally getting some press. Lynch is one hell of a writer.
