float Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 I got turned onto The Residents in 1991. I was on an Acid trip and someone played the album "DuckStab" by The Residents. It rocked my little mind. Recently I remembered the trip and looked them up. I found out that they have 30 albums over 32 years. And the best part: Noone knows their names or what they look like. They wear costumes and don't credit themselves on the albums. They have to CD-ROM games, and a great DVD Icky Flix I recommend them to any serious music fans...like yourselves
Paper Hearts Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 I've heard of them, heard them but don't own any and know little about them.
float Posted June 16, 2005 Author Posted June 16, 2005 they put out an album of 40 one minute songs, called The Commercial Album. And rather than release the singles, they bought up 40 one minute ad slots on San Francisco's number one Top 40 radio station and played them as commercials. BRILLIANT, SINISTER, Geniuses
Paper Hearts Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 that's pretty amazing, there's a band Tangerine Dream who is similarly prolific ,which I know Phee listens to...

phee Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 Tangerine Dream is my hands down favorite band ever... The Residents are also very interesting as well, they have a very performance art like way of doing there music, they involve a lot of film, animation, and disturbing imagry. Also they have never been seen without there costumes (eyeball heads, skulls, etc...)
pomba gira Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 My first husband was into the Residents, way back in the mid-late '80s... I can't remember much about the music except that I found it mildly annoying. I did kind'a like the whole performance-art approach tho. I guess they're one of those artists that I can "appreciate" but don't actually care to listen to on my own time.
