Fierce Critter Posted June 18, 2005 Posted June 18, 2005 So, we're spending about $20 a month renting movies. It's looking like it'd be fiscally more responsible to just get that Netflix membership. I know some people on here use Netflix. For you, one question: What is their policy if a DVD gets lost in the mail? Now, does anyone here use Blockbuster? There's a review site out there, and they'd rate Blockbuster as #1 due to the 2 free in-store rentals per month bonus, but Blockbuster doesn't give a free trial. So that puts it at #2 behind Netflix. Gameznflix rents both games & DVD's. That would be nice. Anyone use them? If you use others and like them, lemme know. =)
Ginevra Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Netflix would definately be a better bet for you although I don't know what their policy is on lost movies. Gameznflix I've not heard of although, depending on the platform, it would be a nice way to try out games before you sink the money into them to buy them and get movies at the same time. With Netflix, you could concievably do 25 movies in a month which would more than recoup the subscription rate. Perhaps you could mail their customer support and tell them that you're considering a subscription but you'd like to ask X first?
Troy Spiral (13) Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 I've tried blockbuster , they delivery time is pretty slow compared to netflix. Netflix is >fast I dont know that i've ever had a lost movie sent too, or from, netflix and i think im up to like 400 dvds rented now. I HAVE had a cracked DVD sent to me once, and one other time there was a scratch on the DVD that made the movie impossible to watch. You just go to the website, mark the dvd as damaged, and they send you the next movie right away, before you even send back the broken one. One time i thought i LOST the dvd all together, and about a month later they charged me for the DVD but i found it a few days later. I value the ratings and the suggestions database part of these rental places sites, and the system that Netflix uses is an amazing peice of work, the blockbuster ratings system and such is fairly crumby , plus they dont seem to have that many people actuaty USING the rating system so you get lopsided reveiws and movie suggestions. I've also tried the Wal-Mart movie rental thing for the month free trial , same problem as blockbuster, slow delivery time compared to netflix and the website is sad compared to the luxury-car style netflix website.
Onyx Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 I like blockbuster because they also give me coupons for two free movie rentals every month along with my mail in thing. It's a great deal for me for only 17 bucks because my kids watch a LOT of movies. I had a bad experience with Netflix charging me a bunch for a couple of movies that were lost, and I cancelled my membership. Blockbuster had one that I reported lost and they let it slide. Eventually it turned up, had been lost in the mail.
Troy Spiral (13) Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Really onyx? Wow. Yeah when i first heard about the blockbuster thing i was excited. Just the >long Guess i just havent been screwed by them yet. haha *crosses fingers*
Jarodaka Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 I've had one DVD arrive cracked in half and one with so many scratches as to make it unplayable. Both times they've sent me replacements before I even sent back the bad copies. (I've been subscribing for about 3 months.) As far as lost DVDs: Q: What happens if a movie is lost in the mail? Will I be charged for this movie?A: We're aware that discs may be lost during the shipping process, through no fault of our customers. We will replace the occasional lost disc free of charge. However, if the number of lost discs becomes excessive, we will place the account on hold for review and notify the customer via email. Basically, unless you're reporting many, many lost or unplayable discs, everything is fine.
