power supply went boom

So basically I'm on my PC as normal and I hear a loud POP! followed by a complete loss of power. So apparently this is a text book example of a power supply burning out.......it was an antec power supply. I only hope that none of my components were damaged, since I don't really want to foot the bill for new components right now.

Any recomendations for a new powersupply?.....I was thinking of an Antec True550

I would go with Ultras 500W X-Connect

It's slightly less expensive and modular oooooooooooooo moooduuulaaar.

edit

I originaly linked to the wrong product

X-Finity is the cheep version

Very cool!!!! I especially like this

X-Connect’s molded cable core allows you to connect only the cables you need

Good luck. Oddly, when my pc went "pop" a few weeks ago, there was an Antec TruePower 550 inside. My Cpu and PSU both fried.

Didn't want to say it but 2 out of 2 Antecs have caused cascading failures but that was a wile back figured maybe they got better.

I'm hoping thats not the case....if it is, than I guess I have an excuse to upgrade. The cpu thats installed isn't anything special, its just a cheap ass amd xp, so if its fried I can slap another in there.

after reading that link I think I might avoid another antec, damn that ultra xonnnect is pretty sweet.

damn...I hope the MB, vid card, memory and everything else is ok...its just the cpu no big deal.

I removed the burned out psu and non of the components appeared damaged at first glance, however I know that doesn't mean that a component isn't damaged/destroyed.

I went with the ultra xconnect 500. Pricewatch found a good site thats selling it for $95 and has next day air. Thanks for the info!!

I'm sure I can handle it......I mean for a psu installation all I need is a hammer right?

Apparently, I had an extra 300w psu laying around and the good news is that none of my components were damaged. PC is up and running as I post from it. :grin
