Live- Stones

Recordings- Beatles

Stones alllll the way!

The Stones are the better "rock" band but the Beatles' music has more staying power, as music, in general, it crosses boundries.

and by the way, the stuff I like by the Beach Boys is some of the most depressing stuff out there, I never was into their surf songs.

Brian Wilson has some lyrics that make Ian Curtis sound like the Happy Mondays.

At least Ian Curtis sounded like a man when he sang. Mr. Wilson sounds like someone cut at least one of his balls off... I'd be a depressed man if I only had one nut too.

this shows your lack of understanding.....Mike Love sang most of the Beach Boys songs, he was not a falsetto.

Brian Wilson wrote all the songs...sometimes with help from people like Tony Asher. Yes i can see why you don't like his voice but he only sang on about 1/3 of their songs....or less.

He readily admits that he's not a goth anyway.

Indeed.

He's super at getting threads off track by mentioning the Beach Boys too.

okay, so for the record, we have 2 for stones, two 'undecided' and one 'other'.

Stones. NO contest

Interesting idea for a thread =)

Didnt want ot make a poll tracy? Makes it easier to keep track =)

If i was forced to pick one or the other, hrmm... pretty much would have to be the Beetles. The stones do rock out pretty hard though. Hard choice.

And unoffically i admit i have both Pet Sounds and the re-built Smile along with a ton of random BB tracks and have been listening to them for a long time. (although not so much in the last few years)

You and BS9 need to start your own thread about the Beach Boys. They're ruining other threads...

What is with you people? Beatles!!! The Stones are soooo one- dimensional.

I'm going with The Beatles. No other band of their time could write music in so many different styles and make it their own. Plus.....The stones could only wish they had the talent that John Lennon and Paul McCartney had.

Stones, no question. I'm not going to defend my choice with any quasi-scholarly arguments about stylistic value or staying power or even musical talent- I JUST PLAIN LIKE THE FUCKIN' STONES BETTER!!! 'cos they rock harder & sound more down & dirty.

Plus I had to listen to my daddy's Beatles records waaayyy too much as a child. My brother & I knew Sergeant Pepper line for line by the time we were 10.

yeah I reckon that could be pretty depressing... maybe it was actually crushed by a surfboard

i like them both equally. i can't really compare them since they are so different to me. i probably know/like more beatles songs but i am not even sure about that? just seems that i have heard more beatles over the years so i think i know more beatles than stones songs.

also i like "newer" beatles over "older" beatles. drugs did wonders for their music style.
