I refuse to call this a genre, I love the music (I actually played White Ring last Wednesday) But all it is is dark washed out trance. or Minimal Synth depending on the artist.

One of the bands that my Group "Alienare" used to play with back in the day.

I would love to be able to hear some of this while relaxing, or strolling around on a wide open landscape so the sound could stretch out for miles.

And let's keep this one goin' as well - it has just as much merit as any "what cookie would you rather be" and "who got laid last night?" thread.

It's usually just darkwave with break beats. The good stuff is at least. I refuse to acknowledge someone slowing down a Top 40 Pop song and making it sound 'dark' as new song, let alone new genre. Stuff like Modern Witch, Os Ovni, and Tearist just sound like minimal-synth to me.

'Witch house' is really interesting as a 'scene'. Mostly because there hardly is one or the one that 'exists' is so confusing. But there are 'witch house club nights' out there. Usually played alongside minimal-synth, darkwave, and experimental industrial stuff. OR. It's played with hip-hop, chillwave and other 'indie' garbage.

I remember seeing a big show in Brookyn posted with White Ring, Mascara, and DJ GODFATHER AND DJ ASSAULT among other DJs on the bill.

So half of the people are well read fans of dark music and have been enjoying goth, deathrock, post-punk, industrial/synth/wave for years and are making something new and current, the other handful seem to be riding that trend and making something dark without having EVER heard anything remotely goth before.

But we can all agree, White Ring is fucking good.

Rename it the "Who did you get laid with while pumpin' some Witch House last night?" thread and it will be sure to never lose steam

That, uhm, would be be contingent though on whether or not people got laid to it .

It is posts such as yours that make me wish I could plus more than just once .

It's like a gothy hipsterness from what I can gather, in my highly unprofessional opinion. Not as a musical genre, but as a scene anyway. Sort of like mainstream + dark = emo bullsh. I give more credit and respect to hipsters though than emo of course.

And everyone here can agree that White Ring is one of the most deliciously decadent Devil's food cakes that your ears have ever consumed (or gtfo!) They even have that good 'n' densely sugary kind of frosting, not that bullshit whipped fluffy garbage.

Now that would make for some curious mood music there...;)

I also hate how half the bands dont actually have names, its a bunch of symbols -_-

I do enjoy alot of the stuff though, I play white Ring, Salem and some HEALTH remixes from time to time.

That's something I don't get right there. It's cute when one band does it but more than 2 and you're just contriving scene trappings.
