havoc Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Ok, Im angry at mainstream radio...they take a good song or the same 4 or 5 songs and play the hell out of them till the good song is overplayed and just started to grate on your nerves. then throw in a few commercials aimed at the masses. makes me sick
DJ Nocker Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I dont listen to the radio unless im at work and forgot my ipod at home... I havent listened to the radio in years outside of work. Although I remember it being the same way when I did though. Having a 30 gig ipod on shuffle usually gets me through the day, Wish I had a bigger one though so I could put all my music on it :/
n0Mad Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I don't know what you're talking about. I have my dial set to 90.9 FM and I'm treated to a wonderful variety of songs in a couple different genres and I don't think I hear a repeat in about 3 days. Sure, there are a couple favorite artists the DJs like to play, but they vary which songs get air time to keep things fresh. Great station; I don't think I've changed my dial in well over 4 years.
Joey Deadcat Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 I disregard radio altogether - it's the iPod, iTunes/Winamp jukebox, or Youtube for me. The closest to radio I listened to was Little Steven's Underground Garage channel when I had satellite television.
Slogo Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 Pandora is the closest thing to radio I listen to anymore...
Troy Spiral (13) Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 I can listen to any music I want at just about any time. So the only use of the radio for me is Talk Radio, and the only two choices are NPR or Sports Talk (I'd listen to AM talk , but my radio doesn't pick AM up worth shit). So essentially its permanently on NPR, just due to no other legitimate choice.
Shaun Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 Radio is so last year, only time I listen to it is in the car and then I barely pay attention to whats on.
havoc Posted August 6, 2011 Author Posted August 6, 2011 please let me clairify, i was listening at work, 12hour shift, to 89x and its like a forced thing. boss has us under gestapo radio station lockdown lol.

Oh, well, I'm treated to seven hours of Doug FM five days a week, so I know your pain. At least your station has DJs. Doug is nothing but an MP3 player with a 2000 song playlist on random. Fun day: October 2 last year when "Wicked Game" played twice in a row.
Simon Bar Sinister Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Fun day: October 2 last year when "Wicked Game" played twice in a row. I've heard that same kind of thing happen on WCSX a few times over the years, and they have live DJs. Always hilarious. :D
n0Mad Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 One night on Walgreens radio I heard the same song twice in a row. I don't know the name of it but it mentions trying to catch a deluge in a paper cup and the chorus is, "Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over." Only thing is, the first time the song played it was the original, then immediately after it was followed by the cover by Sixpence None The Richer.
Simon Bar Sinister Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 (edited) "Don't Dream It's Over" is the title. one of my fave songs ever. Edited August 14, 2011 by Simon Bar Sinister
Raev Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 I'm force fed the Sirius Satellite 70s station. All day. Every day. I hear Donna Summer at least twice a day... /slitwrists.
Strange Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 As far as music selection goes, minus the all request hours i'll get those after. Music selection at a radio station like 89X or the Wrif; the music directors come up with a full playlist for the whole day, based on intrest at the station and mainly on what the general listining public likes, also whats popular at the time as well. So there's not much room for freedom once it's laid down, I want to get into radio so that I can change that a little bit and give the masses what ever they want as well as good radio shows. Now for Request hours at stations besides the playlist the director has already made if they don't have a song, most of the time they won't play it because lets face it THEY don't have it so they'll play another song from that artist.

*Siren* Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Thankfully, I have an amazing ability to tune out absolutely anything. Whenever I've been subjected to crappy music for eight hours a day at work, I don't actually hear it.
wormsinwombs Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 ewwwww fm radio...it's just so awful. Although I think I had it worse when I worked I had to listen to the same cd (usually with duplicate songs) 6hrs straight weeks and weeks in a row. Actually I guess that is basically what the radio is like.
phee Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I do like 88.3 the local collage station here in Ann Arbor... you will here everything from Classical to Japanese Noise on that station... I have never heard one with more eclectic mix.
Scary Guy Posted August 19, 2025 Posted August 19, 2025 I hate terrestrial radio. It was great back when I was young, and even better before I could remember it and the F.C.C. / C.R.T.C. had less restrictions on it. I remember hearing stories of so many things they used to get away with. For example, before things were so strict people could call in and ask them to announce a house party that was going on at $address and they'd actually do it, with hundreds of people showing up and have a blast as a result. There's no way any of that would fly these days, too much liability and no one wants to chance getting sued. Canada's radio stations (despite having that rule where the majority of artists they play have to be Canadian) was and still is way better than U.S. radio. They can get away with so much more and you will hear things out of left field that you just wont hear on the radio here. On a clear night I can get stations from London, Ontario and it may be a little fuzzy but it works. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CFPL-FM I think it was this one, I haven't tuned in in a long time though. https://banana1015.com was okay too when I'd pick that up going camping out in Caro. Haven't done that in 20 years though, and it probably hasn't been worth listening to in about as long. These days I'm mostly into online radio and have been using pyradio which is a console client that works very well. I even helped contribute some ideas to make it better. Some of those online stations are terrestrial ones but for the most part all modern commercial terrestrial stations suck ass. It seems to only be the same few pop / top 40 artists with specific songs played a MINIMUM of five times a day with 20 minute commercial breaks (and don't even get me started on the wacky morning crew shows.) I do like pirate radio if it exists, but I haven't heard any of that since "Laser X" which was 88.9 or something like that. I remember stumbling across it on an internet search and the guy had a MediaOne site which was the same ISP I used at the time (which later got swallowed up by ComCast/xFinity), so that was kinda neat. Heading out West terrestrial radio sucks even more though. All you get is country and Christian shit shoved in your face.
