LuluVox Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 from excellentonline.com Porl Thompson Rejoins The Cure! News Posted June 21, 2005 @ 02:52PM PST Porl Thompson has re-joined THE CURE. Just when we thought ol' Robert was losing it by firing his guitarist and keyboard player last month, now it seems to make sense. Thompson is often considered the quintessential Cure guitarist, having put in two stints with the band, one of which was during the band's "Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me"/"Disintegration" heyday. After leaving the band for the second time following the "Wish" album, Thompson has gone on to work with (among others) Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. Cure fans on the net are, naturally, either (a) extremely excited, or (b) incredibly upset by the announcement.
LuluVox Posted June 28, 2005 Author Posted June 28, 2005 Well, I knew about it then, too. But then I saw this and thought I'd spread the news. Slowpoke nothin'! I'm still in shock over Perry and Roger getting the ax.
LuluVox Posted June 28, 2005 Author Posted June 28, 2005 I did!! I even knew about all of this when it was just a rumor, before the firing. I have very nosy friends who keep me updated. I win!
Paper Hearts Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 From now on, you can ration my Cure and Morrissey news out to me as you see fit. i'll never check their sites again without your permission.

LuluVox Posted June 28, 2005 Author Posted June 28, 2005 Odd. What is it with Christians and tongue references? P.S. Lol Tolhurst is a tool (to stay on-topic).
Fierce Critter Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 (Getting back to the topic ) This is GREAT in my opinion. I didn't give a rats ass about Perry, Roger or anyone who came after "Disintegration" for the most part. I mean, I know Robert is almost single-handedly responsible for the songwriting and often plays all the instruments on the recordings. So it's kinda absurd to say that I don't like the music coming from all the "new members", yadda yadda. But Frankly, I haven't liked much since Disintegration. Robert may be a bit of an autocratic dictator, but I can't help but feel having strong band members like Porl Thompson around does influence the direction Robert takes the sound more than a bit. And while Simon is probably my favorite member, I've never gotten a sense that he cares to direct Robert much. Too bad they just came out with their new album last year. Probably be a few years before we see another new one. Hope Porl sticks it out until then, so we can see if he has any influence over things. Heh. Now, all we need is for Lol to get back on keys. Yeah, right. THAT'll happen.
LuluVox Posted June 29, 2005 Author Posted June 29, 2005 Dude, we already were back on topic. I said Lol was a tool! Also, just to be nitpicky, Roger was on Disintegration. I thought I had something else to say...dang, I forgot. I'll be back.
Fierce Critter Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 Also, just to be nitpicky, Roger was on Disintegration. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, but Porl was still there, too. And Lol was still hanging about. So though Roger might have been there for Distintegration, I don't hear much of the change that comes after "Wish". Not to mention, Roger was gone again for Wish, then back again for "Mood Swings". Who in hell can keep all this musical chairs of band members straight?!?!? :grin
Paper Hearts Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 Odd. What is it with Christians and tongue references? P.S. Lol Tolhurst is a tool (to stay on-topic). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't say Tolhurst is a tool, He did play on some great albums and co-write some great songs like 'Boys Don't Cry' or 'Just Like Heaven' but really, those are Robert's songs and they all are no matter which album we talk about (as was mentioned), Robert is better than Thompson or Tolhurst... I'd agree that Thompson should be a better fit now though and he's deffinately written some amazing things as well (Friday I'm in Love, Hot, Hot, Hot). Oh, and P.S.: Nice Save!
LuluVox Posted June 29, 2005 Author Posted June 29, 2005 True, Lol played his part, and played it well when he wanted to. In the end, though, he was really more of a burden on the other bandmembers than a crucial piece of the puzzle. Plus, that silly lawsuit didn't help me like him any more, either.
Paper Hearts Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 Yes, you didn't let me finish; I was getting to the part where I admit that you're right and you end up winning...
