Death in June was one of the early "goth bands" even though they have shifted all over the place we listened to them right along side Joy Division / The Birthday Party/ The Cure / Souxsie, etc. (very few goth bands ever allowed themselves to be called goth or embraced the term, and their agents cant stand the label because it tends to not help sell product, so we end up having to define it outselves) there more recent stuff is usually called "neofolk" which is one of the 500 "gothish" sounding genres. Used to play them a lot when I was a DJ and for us old people they are dear to our hearts. (not that I was actually around at the begining , i came late to the party) hah

People can get really anal retentive about what to "call" things, and you can go round and round with a debate on it (puts me to sleep lol) I try to avoid that, other than for some reaoson the fear of the term goth (which huge swaths of music fall under loosely but are afraid of the term) frustrates me for some reason.

Well, here is the situation a little bit different. People who hear Neofolk (or Apocalyptic Folk or Folk Noir or Dark Folk or whatever Folk) have a

unlinke appearance than "casual" Goths. So, I would not say that only the sound differs.
