How do I turn off Windows IP 'autoconfiguration'?

Yeah, and I can't get rid of it unless I restart Windows. ipconfig /release followed by an ipconfig /renew doesn't do the trick. (In fact, it never has for me.)

Have you tried a Restore to earlier date and time...? And are you using a router?

I have a laptop with wireless. So I'm going to different wireless networks all the time. Sometimes there is much lag between getting a wireless connection and getting an IP address from the DHCP server/router. When this happens Windows tries to be 'smart' and give itself a 169.* address. I don't want this. I never want this. Once Windows decides it has a 169.* address it wont' give it up even after establishing a wireless connection. It is highly irritating.

I want DHCP, I don't want "IP autoconfiguration".

By Restore I assume you mean system restore? This is not necessary. Usually cycling the power fixes it, but even then there is the possibility Windows decides to give itself an IP address before the wireless connection is established. (Right now I'm using a wired connection because of this.)

I do not want to set the IP address manually as I'm going between several wireless networks during the week. I want the wireless router/dhcp server to give me an ip address.
