I remember every year in the 80s we had to go to the mini station and have the cops inspect our candy and run it through metal detectors.  This sick persons actions is what started that. Although there are many urban myths that are out there this this was why.

I remember in the 70's my mom going through my candy before I ate it.  If I got fruit, my mom cute it into pieces first.  I remember in the news about a kid I believe in Detroit who bit into an apple and lodged a razor blade between his teeth.  Then heard stories from around the country.

I read there was a huge outcry that amounted in very little.. my mom checked my candy as a kid mostly for open things

My mom checked my candy as well but we lived in a small town so there was really nothing to worry about ever.

Who would waste valuable poison or razor blades on kids?  That shit is expensive!

No, you just give them fruit and toothpaste so they have to live with that disappointment :D

I remember in my neighborhood in Detroit this was when crack came around and they were checking our candy for drugs. Like what crackhead shares crack? No way dude.

I have tossed out a few pieces of candy that have looked odd. No name or in a language I can't read. But nothing bad has ever been found. Nothing bad was every found when I was a kid.
