DGN Updates/Upgrades 2019

There is yet another update by the GateWay service.  I am keeping my fingers crossed that nothing else majorly affects our community.

I've been looking into forum software and web hosting, and have since recently started a forum around relationship science-- and though it doesn't have a gallery or a ton of posts like this one does, with initial costs out of the way I think I'm paying less than $3 a month for it.  My suggestion, for what it is worth, is to back up the board data, have someone else host it if the want to for the ability to see and reference old posts, or at least give out copies of the old content whoever wants it, which I am sure Scary Guy might, so there's other copies of the data for the sake of memory.  Then look into a host like digital ocean or a digital ocean alternative (which run way less a month than Invision, as low as $5), and make sure they can either host NodeBB or Discourse and put in a dark theme (although NodeBB is free and Discourse has a one time fee of $99), which both of these are newer forum software that in some ways is better than newer social media and can seriously compete with it.  I think NodeBB is the best forum software in existence today.  I don't know anything about the installation process, since I felt I had to prioritize a webhost that would back more radical speech with my content matter-- forcing me to use Flarum Beta which is unstable and has less features in order to get something flashier and newer, but if you could figure it out or have someone figure it out it might save a lot of money in the long run and increase the userbase.  Just my two cents.

Oh...I just liked the fact that there was a meme that had that spelled out the way I was feeling.  Now I see that is "Game of Thrones".  From what I can tell, me and my sister are probably the only people in the world who have never watched that series before.  Well, that's the way people act that we speak to.

Missing Data Update:

 

As most of you are aware of, multiple threads in various Sub-Forums had to be locked and restarted due to missing data.  It took a bit, but it appears that all of the data has now been restored.  However, to prevent a similar incident from reoccurring in the future, I am leaving the threads locked and will not be merging them with their newly created versions.  This will insure that the post counts stay within a manageable level for future upgrades.

 

Please Note:  The posts in the locked threads are still available for viewing.  Just no new post can be made.

Just an FYI...if anyone has noticed the board post count constantly changing, it was necessary to unarchive many files in order to reinstate missing data to various subforums.  Due to the size of DGN, it may take a bit of time before the post counts stabilize.

So I've discovered that some aspects of the board are still not working properly.  One such major issue being the Donation Tracker.  So to anyone who has made a donation but did not see it register, we thank you for the donation and please bare with us as we fix what's broken.

Hey Tron, I saw a post by Trene saying that guests were posting  - they shouldn't be able to, do you think this was enabled accidentally during one of the updates?

Yes, I saw Trene's post, but I've also seen the "Guest" posting for the past 3 weeks.  I am stomped.  These posts/posters do not exist when I try to investigate and I restricted site access during the February Forum Chaos.  Now there are issues with the Donations Box and various "Developers Page" links .

 

I hate to say it, but the Host Server really did a number on us this time.  I'm still tracking down errors and the corresponding service that is governing each administration.  And they are preparing to release yet another version update sometime this year.  So it is imperative that all of these current issues are completely fixed or we will head into the next upgrade with more issues to come.

 

I do ask for everyone's patience during this time.

OK, one mystery solved. 

 

I had made a mental note that during the last upgrade, "Guest" are now given the chance to create a post, but they must complete registration within 1 week before it can be viewed by the community.  What I was not aware of was this type of post could be seen in the Post Count as a result of it.

 

The "Guest" post count is actually a collective count of all guests who have created a post prior to registration completion, not the collective count of a single guest.

It appears that there are still some technical issues with the board.  Please leave a message in this thread if you notice anything not functioning properly.  Currently there seems to be a glitch with the Profile pages.  We are in the process of addressing this issue.

Terms of Service Notification at Login:

 

DGN has received requests to have the ability to allow members to login with their Facebook account.  This process was completed early this morning.  As DGN is a public community, to be in compliance with Facebook, the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy had to be reinstated.
