I promise to go to KTV one day, particularly when I can get a ride or it is not nighttime. Narcolepsy stops me from driving that far at night if it can be avoided. I end up having to pull over in gas stations to take naps.  But this is in Livonia, my friend is hosting at the Moose Lodge there.

No worries, you don't have to make that promise.  However, I was thinking it would be cool if at some point we could setup for a Karaoke night like the Goth Pop-up, that way we would be singing in familiar company.

 

I must admit, I get timid in front of strangers. 😅

I love Karaoke so much, I'm actually on the fence about if I will go.  It's just the unknown factor of the other people, but I have heard that "liquid courage" is usually in effect so they probably won't even care who's singing.

2 Tips to get over the nerves quickly:

1. Start off with a group song

 2. Start of with a stupid song that no one would expect anyone to sing well. Rock Lobster used to be a good go-to to meet both criteria.

The thing is, if there are a lot of people there to sing, you might only get that one song.

Another issue I have is that every time I sing at a place that sets up for a karaoke night, my voice is soooooo loud that the equipment sometimes can't handle it and I would see the hosts scrambling over to readjust the speakers and/or turn down the sound.  The last time that happened was at Villains in Canada.  I figured after 4 strikes, I was out.

That place was awesome! 

Omg I just realized everytime I do karaoke they always mess with the settings but that's because I'm too quiet. If I hold a microphone anything like I do a camera I totally get why🤣

You can't be lazy about it.  I totally want to do the same when I hold one but you basically just have to grab the shaft and sing directly into the balls.

I used to run Karaoke for a minute until I realized I hated it.  I still have some goth tracks I put together from instrumental versions of those songs (so, thanks to literally every band who puts those out.) I even tried it once years ago when I ran it at Mephisto's (because if no one is singing I guess the host is expected to?), realized I really can't sing, and stopped half way through.  I will say that the software I used had a  plugin to remove vocals and it worked pretty good for 2006-2007 technology (I think that's around when it was.)

When I try to sing on the app I use I notice that alot of the songs I like doing that are more goth friendly always have that funky background vocal removal sound, you know the kind that sounds like it's been done underwater and ran over by a truck? I don't think some people knew about the Winamp because anyone can upload songs on it. I'll have to try that if I ever upload. Thanks for the tip.

Upload?  No, you should never use that software now.  Back when I used it it was 17 or so years ago and it got bought and sold and now contains adware IIRC.  It's something completely different now.  You can scroll to the bottom and still find the desktop version for download but I don't trust any version number past 2.95, and sites that have old versions can be sketchy as fuck.

In fact I'm going to go edit the post above to take it out.

Thanks! I can't upload on that site from my phone anyway I'd have to get my old outdated laptop if it's still at my friends house and I keep forgetting but luckily I haven't found any songs yet that the site hasn't had some version of.
